Dire Straits-Love over GOld
Mark Knopfler -Golden Heart/Sailing to Philadelphia (Not "ROCK" but you like melodies right?)
Allman Brothers Band-Live at Fillmore East (If you like jazz, you might like southern blues as well. I think this album to be one of the best live albums ever).

Just recommending stuff others haven't as yet.

Why do people think it's odd that someone isn't too familiar with rock?

I think this is most likely due to the huge number of rock stations in the U.S. I know when I was growing up in Chicagoland there were at least five classic rock stations on the air at any given time, and that doesn't even take into account the "modern" rock stations. As to the original question:

Thin Lizzy
Judas Priest (specifically Sad Wings of Destiny & Stained Class)
David Bowie (The Man Who Sold The World)
Motorhead
Porcupine Tree
Rush
Queens of the Stoneage
Killing Joke
Blind Guardian

I thought it was odd that he initially liked the above genres when first hearing rock. Rammstein takes a bit of getting used to. Also, it was odd to me that these were the first bands that he was both and introduced and took a liking to. I wasnt surprised at all that he hadnt gotten into rock until now.

What artistes and albums would be recommend me to buy ?
Thanks !

PS : No mindless screaming and melodyless songs. The song should atleast have some melody/tune to it.
I happen to hate Pink Floyd.

Rammstein would be considered Industrial. Van Halen is a great introduction intoclassic 80's rock.

Maybe start out with a broad selection of classic rock as a foundation:

Led Zeppelin- IV or it's sometimes called Zoso
Rolling Stones- Hot Rocks
The Who- Who's Next
AC/DC- Back in Black
Tom Petty- Greatest Hits
Rush- Spirit of Radio
Eric Clapton- Cream of Clapton
The Doors- LA Woman
David Bowie- Rise and Fall of Ziggie Stardust
Aerosmith- O Yeah! Ultimate Aerosmith Hits

IMO Rammstein isn't industrial. More like synth metal or something, there cd's and dvd's do have a factory/industrial feel though. nine inch nails "the downward spiral" or "further down the spiral" Version 1 or 2,or maybe some Ministry from the "psalm 69" album is more industrial IMHO.
