did a lot of research, it came down between these few...
 
1. Etymotic HF5
Best isolation, but I'm a bit worried about getting used to the deep insertion style on this, is it possible to get good seal without a deep insertion?
 
2. Brainwavz M2
cheaper alternative 
 
3. Sennheiser IE6
 
4. Monster Turbine
 
5. Monster Turbine Pro Copper
$130 used on Amazon... might not come with accessories though
 
6. Ultimate Ears 700
good isolation?

I can really only comment on the HF5.  The glider tips allow isolation without deep insertion.  The downside is that they need constant replacing similar to how foam tips need constant replacing.

HF5s, don't stress over the insertion, they are actually the second most comfortable I have used after the IE8s.

k I just went ahead and bought the HF5 on Amazon for $90, sounds like a good deal. now we wait...

It's a good choice phoenix. But don't buy used Monster Turbines on Amazon or eBay, because there's a very good chance of getting well-made fakes. The only other ones I would've considered would be the M2.
