Of course the PK1 benefits from amping. But how much of the benefit is the extra amps pushing the 150ohms and how much is the higher quality signal of a good amp via LOD? I'm sure it's both, but how does it divvy up?

I've got a FiiO E5 that I could use to amp the PK1 from the HP jack of a fuze but am not sure that would really exploit the PK1's potential. If I could get to, say, 90% of what a good amp + LOD achieves then I'd be happy.

If an E5 is what you only have heard with PK1, then you haven't heard anything yet. It is a $25 amp that worths ever penny of it, but nothing more - certainly nothing near 90%.
