as these tracks were never released, some are music from movie trailers (like for pf live at pompeii), and were never sold by the band, i see no reason not to be able to download them for free. the original price of atfos was for the time the compiler spent gethering the tracks together. i own every floyd album i've been able to lay my hands on (i still need obscured by clouds and everything after the wall, and i've no interest in More and Umaguma), so i have given the band their money for the product they were to make money off of. practice sessions etc are not copyrighted afaik

Oh my I feel so old. This is a term used with vinyl. Back in the old days - before the mid 80's - people bought single records a lot. The A side was usually the hit song you bought the record for. On the other side (B Side) was a filler song. These records ran about 1.50 if I remember correctly.

There are multiple versions of certain songs and then things like this:

7 - Empty Spaces - "backwards message"00:19
Recorded : April - November 1979
Primary source : "The Wall" album, released November 30, 1979
Source for the tree : "The Wall" MFSL CD
There's a backwards message at the start of "Empty Spaces": "Congratulations, you have just discovered the secret message. Please send your answer at the Funny Farm, care of Old Pink, Chalfont". Then David shouts "Roger, Carolyne on the phone".

I recently re-discoverd "Obscured by Clouds" and really like #7 "Childhoods End". I can't help thinking it's related to the song "Time" on "Darkside of the Moon".

thats awesome. I literally just got done digging up my copy of "obscured by clouds". havent listened to it in years. Childhoods end is one of my favorite songs. I agree with the relationship to time. those are two of the best songs about the mortality of man.

About "empty spaces": has the full length studio version ever had an official release to anyones knowledge? I have a bootleg called "pink floyd - the soundtrack to the wall".. something along those lines.. someone just recorded the music straight from the film. alternate version of "mother", "bring the boys back home", "when the tigers broke free pt1 & 2", and the full length "empty spaces" are the main differences i can think of off the top of my head.

the song "empty spaces: on the wall (the album, not the movie soundtrack) isn't the full length studio version? i find that difficult to believe...

rewatch the movie and believe it. the full length version was cut from the album due to lack of space.

I saw Floyd in June 1975 (about 2 months before the release of WYWH) at Nassau Coliseum, where "Raving and Drooling" and "Gotta Be Crazy" were performed. They were indeed to become 'Sheep' and 'Dogs' and differ mostly by some lyrics that were changed before they appeared on 'Animals.'

A very nice boot of this tour is from Boston and titled, "Echoes in the Gardens."
It also includes all of DSOTM and an encore of 'Echoes' complete with sax solo.

I believe this is correct (referring to "Empty Spaces"). I was surprised that the full version was not restored when it came out on CD or when it was remastered for CD.
