My pillow isn't very nice... It's flat, and doesn't seem to want to fluff up. So I think I may need a new one.

I do not want Memory Foam, as my mum has one and I don't like it that much.

What other alternatives are there?

All I know is that I like my pillow cold. When trying to get to sleep, I'll flip it around to get the coldest side possible, and sometimes put my head on the different ends.

I'm thinking of wrapping it in shopping bags and putting it in the fridge. I'll do it one day and tell you what the results are. =p

I always thought I was weird, but at least now I know I'm not alone.

Cotton's still the best. Has to be changed often though, if you prefer firmer pillows (like I do).

I prefer memory foam. My wife prefers buckwheat.

Although based on material alone, I'd probably give 100% wool a try. Don't know of a place that sells pure wool pillows that you can try out in a store.

I sleep on a wool/cotton blend mattress, and it's great for wicking away moisture, no sweaty sleeps, warm in winter, cool in summer. I'd have a 100% wool mattress if they weren't so expensive.

Hah, I love cold pillows too. Once, I even put mine in the freezer. Unfortunately, entropy wouldn't leave me alone and heat kept flowing back into the pillow before I could really even relax. :/

What I really need is one of those chillow things.

after many years of using crappy pillows, and suffering from transient insomnia, i need a good pillow - i now have one of those ergonomic pillows which offers support under the base of the kneck and it seems to be working fingers crossed.

Yeah, I now use one of the cheap Ikea ergonomic pillows and it's served me well for a year or so. The foam is getting a little soft now, but I will certainly be replacing like with like when it finally gets too squishy...

Latex pillows are the only way to go. I've tried them all...found some comfort with the buckwheat types..and then about a year ago, stumbled onto the latex. Unlike memory foam, they don't heat up...they are resilient and retain their shape...latex does not compress and flatten out over time like regular foam, and they come in different thicknesses and sizes. However, they are expensive.

Don't reinvent the wheel.

I like fluffy pillows. Currently using two pillows, one on top of the other. The top one is down-filled and the bottom one is a hybrid down-outer, feather-core for support. Two down/feather hybrids are a bit too high for me, but then again, it really depends on the design of the pillow. I also like the synthetic hollowfibre "like-down" pillows that have a bit of elasticity in them.

I looked into those buckwheat pillows and ended up getting a Millet Seed Hull filled one instead. The smaller seed hulls will slide around much easier as you move in your sleep and it has a 'silkier' feel to it. Also, the pillow company that I bought it from will send you a free bag of seed hulls to 'refresh' your pillow every couple of years or so when requested.

I dont think you should auto-rule out ergo-foam pillows. They make them in all kinds of shapes. I use a kidney-bean shaped thing that supports the base of my neck. So far so good.

Many times I dont even use a pillow, just lie flat on my back.

Have you considered down?
