It's a $200 Apex DVD player!

lol, but yeah, I wouldn't recomend it to others though, hey want to buy it? lol.

I'm saving up for a new one, I like it cuz it plays everything, VCD, SVCD, CD-R, CD-RW, Pal DVD and NTCS DVDs, etc. Plays everything I through at it...

CYM,

everyone is waiting on the Philips SA963 player. I have been promoting the Pioneer Elite DV-45A dvd player because it can do SACD and DVD-A.

I found my Apex dvd player to be too bright. So I bought an Onkyo DV-S555 player for $175 (because I don't like Sony and couldn't wait forever for the Philips and didn't want to spend $400 for the Pioneer). It does 320 bit rate mp3 great. I'm waiting for the Teac upsampling dvd sacd player, also.

Check out www.vcdhelp.com and take a look at the compatibility chart, i would recommend avoiding crummy brands like Apex, they have lousy QC. The most recent Sony's i've seen seem to play everything (about fkn time!).

I have a Samsung unit, its ok, takes a little long also regarding accessing a disc or even open and closing the tray. The remote layout sucks too.

Apex had high ratings on VCDhelp.com because it was so afordable and could play everything.

My Apex is pretty good though. The audio isn't "fantastic" but hooked up to my reciever, it's pretty ass kickin. The video quality is good too. It's just the build quality is the only major issue.

DVD plays gotten alot cheaper this year. Much more affordable a few years ago when I purchased my dvd player. I went with Apex at the time because it played the media that I need it to play, and at the time it was fine. My taste have outgrown it and I am planning on buying a new dvd and I won't be going back with an Apex for sure. It's a good first time dvd player though.

I personally don't like Sony either but there dvd players are pretty good. I would rather go with Pioneer or Panisonic myself. Philips is good too. I like philips. What is it with the 'P' brands.

I couldn't find any Pioneer 45 dvd players. How is the Onkyo Dv player. My price rang in about $125-$200.

Maybe you or anyone else can help me find a good DVD player for under $200.

I really don't know if I should get a new DVD, a DVD VCR combo cuz I don't own a vcd and have quite a few tapes.lol, or if i should get a MP3 Player cuz my CD burner is messed up. My computer is in my den. M room dosn't have it's own phone line and the cable line for my Broadband access isn't strong enough in my room. Something about the wires being split. I don't know.

Anyways... this is what i'm looking for:

A DVD player that is able to play CD-R, CD-RW, MP3, VCD, & SVCD... that displays good video and good audio. Comes with a good remote that I can see it in the dark during movies.

A DVD/VCR combo would be great but I'm not sure how the video and audio are on those.

Thats about it for my needs. Oh and a player that will last a long time. Even under tuff conditions. I burn alot of incence and sometime the smoke can have effects on some equipment. But I clean my systems down with a moist rag now and then and also use them Wet CD player cleaner discs now and then.

Hmm, wonder what I can get for under $200.

CYM

if you can stretch just a tad to 219 plus 7 shipping you can get a Sony SACD and DVD player in the same unit. (Sony DVP-NS755V)

J and R is temporarily out of stock which is who had it for 219.

here's some links:

I could understand why people jumped on Apex players, since they did everything, but their QC is so lousy it's just not worth the hassle. Plus, the fact that they are terribly slow to respond to ejecting the damn tray among other things is very annoying. A friend of mine went thru two of them, he's a cheap person since he could very well afford a more expensive player. I like the Sony's because the remote is layed out very well, besides the fact that their all around good-great players. Check out vcdhelp, i saw one Sony unit that seemed to play a whole lot of different formats. Plus, with people reviewing them, you can get an idea of what kind of problems you may encounter with certain cdr brands and so on.

Just wondering... what would be the point of buying a SACD player if I don't have any SACDs? Would it play regular cd's better then a good CD/DVD player?

Or is it that I wouldn't have to worry about buying a SACD player whne SACDs become the main thing in the years to come.

That sony player seems to be the **** man. Plays everything, I like that. Just was wondering about the SACD part.

For $230 for that player, it seems fair. Over my budget, but If I was to save some more I could prob aford it. Might have to cut down on utilies for a day of two. Seems worth it. Ok so I don't take a bath for 3 days..lol, J/k...30 more won't put me in that kinda bind.

according to the response i've seen in the source forum SACD is simply amazing. The selection isn't quite vast but there are several cds to choose from.

I myself would like to have an SACD player to experience this for myself. and since its not exactly "expensive" i feel its worth it.

i need a good dvd player anyways.

if SACD is as good as the response dictates i hope it becomes the standard.
