I'm looking to purchase myself a Music Hall MMF-5 in the very near future.

I'm looking for some recommendations for a phono stage with a good headphone jack that'll serve me well until I add a proper amp and/or speakers. I'd like this phono stage to be a part of my rig for a while, surviving future turntable upgrades, so a price going above the cost of the MMF-5 is reasonable. Tubes, SS, doesn't matter. I'm just looking for some starting points for my research.

Is this backwards thinking? Would anyone suggest another route?

Thanks.

~US$250

Or go with a regular preamp with a built-in phono stage & headphone jack (such as my SAE P102)
