Philps Fidelio X1 vs sennheiser hd 598

Good to hear! I'm a huge fan of good music - don't really care what kind it is, but I've gotta say that these X1s are the most versatile headphones I've ever, ever used.

If you're in Europe, the X1s can be had for a very reasonable price. In this price range I don't think there is much that competes with the X1. The X1s are in the same league as the HD 600 IMO which I hear is a few  levels above the HD 598.

The HD 600 can be had from Amazon Spain and France sometimes below 250 EUR but you would require another 200 EUR of equipment (DAC/amp).

The X1 doesn't need much amping from what I read but benefits from a good DAC. I used it with the Audioquest Dragonfly. I'd say the SQ improved from a 6/10 directly out of my laptop to a 8/10 with the AQ DF.

Here's a survey I conducted regarding DAC/amps for the Fidelio X1:

I think based on the survey and what I've read you're probably looking at something like a 10% improvement in sound quality using the FiiO E10 maybe from a 6/10 directly from a laptop to a 7/10. This would probably increase to 8/10 with O2/ODAC, Magni/Modi, audioquest dragonfly etc. That's just a rough estimate based on what I've read. I've only listened to it personally directly from a laptop and through an audioquest dragonfly and those were a 6/10 and 8/10 in terms of sound quality IMO.

I am from Austria and the hd 598 and the X1 are both arround 150-200 euros. And damn you keep confusing me :p i think i will try both out and keep one. Unfortunatly i need to save some money so you will get my opinions soon

Which headphones did you end up deciding on?

I'm currently looking to pick up the HD598s or possibly the Philips X1s ... and any insight you can provide will be helpful.
