Philips SHP9500 Discussion Thread

I ended up selling my shp 9500 and got back what I paid for it.

Its a good sounding headphone even if a bit too bright and way too high treble. But the 0 clamp force was a deal breaker, the pad material sucked ass. So slippery and itchy and tickle thing would always slide or move around your head even when I am one place my mind just kept telling me this slippery thing is on my head and was messing with my mental health.

I waaay prefer the HD 555 over this. But ultimately I decided to buy the HD 600 waiting for a sale soon.

The 0 clamp force is a deal maker.  I can pretty much wear my pair for as long as I want without any need to take any break.  The pads don't irritate my skin either and are plenty soft for my usage.

Different strokes for different folks.

Does anybody know if the bad audio quality cable in the shp 9500 was fixed in the shp 9500s version which comes with a shorter cable?

When I had my shp9500s the default cable sounded better than a expensive nylon braided aftermarket pair. Well to be honest I could hardly tell any difference.

I was wondering about the best source to feed my shp. As its leaning towards a little on bright side, I guess a warm sounding source should be used for the best soothing output.

People say that ak4490 dac generates warmer sound than other dacs like sabre's. Take a look at xduoo xd-05.

You mean grainy sound? Some people reported it while others not. Probably depends on ear rather than sq of these.

I don't think it is now "fixed" because Philips reported that headphones are actually the same.

I mean the cable people said the shp 9500 had bad cables which made bad audio and replacing them was a must when you bought it

I wanna know if that cable problem was fixed in the 9500s version. I had a 9500s and i used both aftermarket and the original cables and nothing changed both sounded just fine and dandy.

Yeah, I like how the clamp and pads are so comfortable and durable. I sometimes forget that I am wearing them.

Right now on Newegg the SHP9500 is $50.00 .....and the Fidelio L2 is $100.00 Is the Fidelio twice as good? Or to frame it a little more forgivingly, is the L2 worth the extra $50.00?

it is for the build quality, but not for the sound

That was kind of my impression. I would want better pads and a headband mod I saw somewhere on head-fi ...when you factor in the adapter ring to install them, the price gets closer to parity....now it's more like $85 vs. $100. For only $15 difference I think (for me anyway) that a bit better sound / build quality/ looks and better cables makes it worth it to get the L2.

I run my SHP9500 off the DACport Slim all the time.  Plenty of power and it sounds great to my ears.
