After got 598SE, I just found I like 9500 more. Techanically, 598 is better, but I just found 9500s are more airy and more enjoyable. But that's only for classical/symphony, which I almost only listen to.

Could you quickly comment on the soundstage difference between the two? Like in depth and width or however you like to describe it, Thanks!

When well drived, soundstage shape of 9500 is just a little bit smaller than 598SE. But imaging and separation is much better on 598. But 9500 is more airy and smooth. Might be due to newness of 598.

Edit: I'm sorry. Forget about the above comment. 598SE is much better than 9500! For the previous comparison, I used the short cable. I just found the short cable is much worse than the long cable. WIth long cable, Every facet of soundstage of 598SE is much better than 9500 and more natural and airy.

Can anybody recommend some tested cable replacement? One guy measured the original cable which has almost 2 ohms and that it limits the clarity of highs. Sub $15 would be fine, but if more expensive cable makes a difference I can invest more. (powering with SD793-II)

The high end on the 9500's.. It's hard to explain? I've never been one to really listen for it. It's definitely not harsh though. I'd almost say laid back and smooth? People are saying the cable causes some issue there though. Might try a new cable to see.

I have to say I am on the fence regarding the issue of pad switching on these headphones. I enjoyed the original sound but after changing the pads to Brainwavz angled pleather pads I believe the bass has been accentuated to an excessive degree. I may buy some velour pads to see if that makes a difference or I may go back to the original pads (which I thought were fine, by the way). Mo' bass isn't necessarily mo' better.

I changed to Velour pad and kept original cloth filter and it tamed the treble a bit (I prefer it over original) and it did not change on bass quantity. Overall, I am very glad to change to Velour pad. And it also look nicer to me. :)

I just got the SHP9500 and I'm loving it! It's so much better than I expected! I like this more than my K7XX! I'm sure there's way to change the ear pad, but is there any step by step guideline?

Look for my post a few pages back...
