ACMEE Magic Sound 4

ES9018K2M 192K/24Bit DSD128 USB DAC HiFi Portable Type-C to 3.5mm/4.4mm Headphone Amplifier

ACMEE-Phantom 4.jpg

Dark blue color Magic Sound 4, simple and pure.

The Magic Sound 4 amp inherits the exquisite sandblasting workmanship and dark blue of the MF02S. The appearance design echoes and inherits the MF01 and MF02S. It adopts the same intaglio process of the side gully and the MF02S high-end version. It feels great. In terms of appearance, Magic Sound 4 uses a non-button, single indicator light, and seamless design. The appearance is extremely simple and generous, blue is dark, and hearing is pure.

Fully equipped with power supply, seven stars with the moon

The audio power supply of the Magic Sound 4 amp adopts ±5.5V boost and ±4.8V ultra-low noise LDO design, which effectively reduces power supply noise. The DAC left and right channel power supplies are separated, using two 3.3V LDO power supplies to improve the left and right channel separation . Plus the 3.3V power supply and 1.2V power supply for the digital circuit. Magic Sound 4 has 7 power chips in its petite body.

Audio pure land, channels symmetrical left and right

Magic Sound 4 uses the same independent PCB board design for audio circuits as MF02S, which is called pure land technology within the ACMEE team, which is to create an independent pure land for audio circuits and eliminate the interference of digital signals on audio circuits. In addition, in the audio circuit, a completely symmetrical design for the left and right channels is adopted, and the wiring length, wiring width, wiring path, and component layout are consistent to improve the consistency of the left and right channels.

Balance support, amp assist

Magic Sound 4 uses RT6863 high-sound quality and high-drive amp chip, and has both 3.5mm audio and 4.4mm balanced interfaces, which can satisfy most headphone drivers. Please refer to the specification for details.

Never perfect, never stop.

ACMEE Audio has been surrounded by many customers and friends for 4 years. Thanks to the friends who have used ACMEE products and provided valuable opinions. ACMEE's works have never been flawless, and we need to hold a carving knife and carve together. ACMEE Audio will not work behind closed doors, and will explore everyone's acoustic understanding with friends.

Blast From the Past 1/2: ECCI YST-02

ECCI is a brand that seems to have gone dormant for nearly a decade, but is now back with a budget-tier offering with the YST-02, a 1DD+1BA hybrid with an MSRP of $79. Penon has kindly provided it to me for review, I have been listening for the past few days and am now ready to offer some beginning thoughts.

DSC00105.jpg

INITIAL IMPRESSIONS
The YST-02 seems to be that rarest of creations: a budget-tier midcentric IEM, hewing fairly close to an audiophile-neutral signature. Rather than pumping up the low end for some head-rattling bass or employing a sawtooth-boosted treble region to create an artificial sense of excitement and detail, as so many budget-tier offerings do, the YST-02 opts instead for a quiet and restrained presentation -- both in tuning and in technicalities. As I mentioned the mids are the star of the show, with an extremely natural tonal presentation which offers very good body and note weight without any marked coloration to the sound. The low end is quite restrained and somewhat rolled off, so bass heads need not apply; however, this is not precisely a deficiency as the low end ably performs its appointed task of providing a foundation for the midrange. The treble is of particular note, being quite level and free of any egregious peaks and dips (there is a bit of a clarity boost around 5K but I don't think this will trouble any but the most sensitive), and is quite smooth and fatigue-free yet providing a very good amount of extension and detail for a budget offering. This is accomplished by the balanced armature, which is tasked solely with the upper treble frequency reproduction in order to compensate for this traditional weakness of single-DD setups. The cost here, of course, is a bit of plasticy timbre in the upper regions, yet I think this is a fair trade as it provides for a level of detail and overall technical performance which can scarcely be found at this price point without various treble peaks and tuning tricks which often lead to fatigue (or disqualify the IEM totally for those with sensitivities). Speaking of technicalities, the imaging, layering, and separation are quite good for the price point. Soundstage is not absurdly expansive, yet is well-ordered and well-proportioned. In short, it is a very compelling all-round package, and even with the recent glut of heavyweights at this price point (Moondrop Aria, Dunu Titan S, etc.) I think it still finds its niche and can defend it with competence.

For those who were fans of the KBear Lark, this is a true upgrade in technicalities (especially imaging, layering, separation, and soundstage) while retaining a similar neutral tonality.

Full review forthcoming.

Blast From the Past 2/2: HiFiBoy OS V3

HiFiBoy is a company that came out of nowhere about five years ago and seems to have disappeared just as quickly. Nevertheless Penon Audio reached out to me offering a review sample of the OS V3, a 1DD+2BA hybrid that garnered some fairly positive reviews back in 2018. I was curious not only to hear the IEM, but also to get a glimpse of the state of the industry several years before I dove down the IEM rabbit hole (in 2018 I was pretty much listening to full size cans). The OS V3 is priced at $159, situating itself in the entry-midfi price bracket. I have been listening to it alongside the ECCI YST-02 for a few days now and am now ready to offer a few thoughts in advance of my full review.

DSC00139.jpg

INITIAL IMPRESSIONS
Though the OS V3 and the ECCI YST-02 are both hybrids, they are nevertheless basically polar opposites in every regard. Instead of the YST-02's retiring neutrality, the OS V3 instead immediately impresses with an undeniably full, weighty low end and lower midrange. The slower decay of the DD-powered bass creates a rich atmospheric tonality, one which the somewhat dark treble region steps away in favor of, yet to which it still lends its light accents when called upon. This is an unabashedly colored IEM, but not to the degree of becoming unnatural; instead, it brings the sonic qualities of the recording to maximum fullness and richness. The technicalities are entirely in service to this tonal vision; while it is not a detail monster by any stretch of the imagination and the warm tuning precludes any vast reaches of space between the instruments and voices, nevertheless the two balanced armatures provide sufficient definition and clarity to prevent the atmospheric warmth from collapsing into mere syrupy congestion. HiFiBoy weaves quite the deft musical tapestry here, with rich hues and colors which entwine one another closely while still keeping every form clear and distinct. I look forward to getting to know the OS V3 better and completing my full review.

My Initial Impressions of the Rose Martini earbuds.

Sometimes we are taken out of our comfort zone and discover a pleasant experience....that is my story with earbuds, yes, I tried them, but I felt bass was just not there for me.

Screenshot_20220403-162103_Gallery.jpg

Penon sent me the Rose Martini and they are not just good looking, they have high end sound quality in the high treble and mids but this time bass is not missing. The bass is good quality in sub-bass and mid-bass.

I would readily admit, I have only recently found a more stable position for fitting them, which helps and makes them sound like speakers next to my ears.

More detailed impressions to follow.

My HiFiBoy OS V3 is now complete and ready for your perusal.

Tl;dr: want atmospheric bass, a euphonic midrange, and smooth fatigue free treble with competent technicalities at a very reasonable price? Buy the HiFiBoy OS V3. I can give my full recommendation to this forgotten gem of an IEM.

A much different earphone, but also worthy of consideration: my ECCI YST-02 is also now complete. Reference tuning and excellent technicalities at the cost of some BA timbre in the treble. Can hold its own even in the crowded sub-$100 price bracket.

Really loving the new album by The Weather Station through the OS V3:

The tuning very much suits Tamara Lindeman's voice, and as I mentioned in my review pianos sound uniformly excellent.
