OK, I just went through a bunch of old posts, but it looks like people are focusing on different things than what I'm looking for.

I'm looking for a PCDP for a very specific use, so I need the following:

Good quality transport
Good quality line-out
Optical-out would be a plus
LCD display would be nice but not required

I don't give a hoot about any of the following:
CD-RW/CD-R
MP3/Ogg/whatever
Bass Boost, or any other "sound enhancing" features
Doesn't need to be ultra portable or fancy looking
Battery life isn't a priority

So, based on all that, what do people recommend?

Thanks for the suggestion, but how about something I can actually buy?

Try checking out the Sony D-465 as it has all the features that you're looking for. It sounds good and can be had fairly cheap, in fact there's one up for sale right now in the F/S forum. Another one worth considering would be the Sony D-321 which also sounds good and has the features you're looking for.

If you can find them, the Sony D-777 or E-905 are awsome vintage PCDP. I have a D-777 and they sound great with earbuds, plus they have 15mw drivers on the headphone amp and an automatic distortion equalizer. It has a pretty decent line-out as well from what I've read, but never really used it myself.

I prefer the D-NE10 over the D-EJ2000. While the output caps of the D-EJ2000 can be replaced for improved sound over the headphones, the D-NE10 still sounds a bit better to these ears (and has the bonus of playing non-redbook formats).

Both have optical out.

But with the 2000, you can use the remote at the same time.

Is there a 'Team D-EJ2000'? how do I go about starting one?
