i think the ******* bid $230 or something... i had a max bid of $210, which i was feeling was rediculously high, and i would shoot myself it got that high. luckily, it was steady at $177, with less than a minute left, then i refresh and there it is: pauly 1975 is the winner.

they may be cool, but COME ON!!

just my rant.... heh. there is a good chance that this dude is a 28 year old head-fi boy.....

I too agree that $212.50 is a ridiculous price.

$210 is much more reasonable

I would say that $212.49 is as high as is reasonable.

Seriously folks, they're worth it. MSRP was $225 in 1997. Considering that they're not made anymore.

Have these become more known than a year and a half ago? I got one for $90 on e-bay in early 2002.

Let's see... For less than $212.49, you can buy a new HD580, just a bit more to buy a Beyer DT880 or Etymotic ER-4S. I don't know about the Beyers, but the Etys and Senns have stood the test of time, and have received constant praise from experienced Head-Fiers/Headwizers over the years. Considering you like your CD1000 better than your D-77, and that people who have heard more headphones than you say the CD1000 isn't all that great...

Well, do the math. I thought it was pretty obvious.

When you're hunting for rare and desirable items, you have to throw out the idea of "value" and "worth". This reminds me of the time when the KSC-35 was selling for $90-100 on eBay.

Mike, why do you feel the need to respond to every single post twice in a row, sometime even to the same person as you just did? As for the worth of the D77, anything over about $100 is absolutely ludicrous. Yeah they are supposed to be better than the D66, but i've heard from people who have them(besides you) that is more of a preference thing than one being better than the other. $212 is a ripoff even for a collectable MIDFI can at best. Yes Mike, we know you have 2 D77s. We don't care anymore, we've all heard it a million times. Time to shut up.

There is a Sony store here that sells stuff at MSRP, where I bought my MZ-R3 for $650 and MDR-CD1000 for $350. The price of $212.50 is not ludicrous for the D-77.

Has it occured to you that maybe MSRP is way too high?

Guys, this was an auction, so where's the ripoff? If you can find somebody willing to pay 212$ then they're worth 212$, it's as simple as that. Whether you could get better phones for that amount is an entirely different matter...

Precisely.

I thought the $90 I paid last year was a bargain. I peg their 'true' value at about $150-$180.

I've heard the D-66, and I ended up not like them at all. If the D-77 is anything like the D-66, they're not worth $200, at least not for me. Just my opinion.
