I myself got into the 1984-1990 (electro/dance) era thanks in part to his smooth jazz legacy. I found out about tracks like "19" and "Rainforest" by searches on both Amazon and YouTube.
As a result, I now own all of the CDs he came out with from then (except Rain Forest which never came out on CD but I will be getting it on LP soon) and I made a mix MD of material from back then plus I most recently picked up a CD of Time Machine: The Best Of Direct Drive And First Light 1981-83 and both 1st Light LPs (1st Light and Daybreak) after listening to various tracks of them on YouTube.
Boy does Paul recruit great vocalists to perform with him, such as Derek Green, during their days with 1st Light and Direct Drive, whose falsetto mode makes you think of EWF's Philip Bailey, as well as Kevin Henry and also Carol Kenyon (on his 1985 hit "Don't Waste My Time") during his electro/dance years, and now of course, Helen Rogers in his modern work (Hardcastle/Jazzmasters).
