i have the md33's and like them quite a bit, they are lively and fun to listen. I used to use pmx60's with my dell dj but since i got the md33's i haven't even looked at the pmx60's. By comparison the pmx60's feel thin and hollow sounding. I was quite surprised by the soundstage in the sharps, I figured it would be extremely narrow but it's definately not bad.
I have the Shure E3 and E5, Etymotic Er6i and Er4p, UE10, Sennheiser HD650, Sony EX71's, the Sharp MD33's, and the Future Sonics EM3's. The EX71 has overemphasizes bass IMHO and muddies the mid and high detail. The MD33's have great sound and is an excellent value but not punchy enough bass for me (I listen to a lot of hip hop and electronica). For me the Future Sonics EM3 offered the best overall mix for the type of music that I listen to (for under $100). These are the headphones that I carry around when I commute (They are in a dead heat with the Er4's because I love the Er4's sound detail, but both fall behind a bit behind the UE10 for canal phones and far away from the HD650's) since I don't really mind beating them up as much as I would with my UE10's. There is a little bit of a sacrifice with the mids and highs, but if you have an EQ you can adjust to your liking. The foamies on the EM3's take a bit to get used to, but once you get accustomed to them you'll see that they're not a bad alternative to custom fit IEM's. You can get them for $99 at Future Sonics' website which is a little bit above the price range you are looking at, but in my opinion is worth every penny if you like bass. Everybody has different tastes for sound , so my suggestion is to give all the earphones that you can test a try and even if you have to sacrifice in time (mailing them back and such) it'll be worth it in the end. You also want to take into consideration the type of music that you listen to because these tendencies should affect your purchase a bit. These forums are great but at the end they are just people's opinions and might not jive with yours.
