Just about 12 years ago, Panasonic (NOT SkullCandy!!!) announced the first vibrating headphone in aim of giving their listers the sensation of powerful low bass. This technology is called Virtual Motion Sound System (VMSS).
The original VMSS consists of two products: 'ShockWave' walkman RQ-SW20 and RP-HT970 VMSS monitor headphone (with independent VMSS in-line controller). Both were considered to be the top of Panasonic's line of product.
I bought the walkman when it first came out, and abandoned it after 2 years of usage due to headphone jack connection failure. To use VMSS on this walkman, the special headphone must be used (see connector picture below). A replacement headphone was bought several years later but I lose interest in tapes and went on to CD. Few years later I was lucky enough to bought a few RP-HT970 before it was out of production. Due to the low build quality of Panasonic 'phone at its era, my first pair of RP-HT970 is very much in ruin.
Since I have a working walkman VMSS headphone that can't be used else where, and a VMSS headphone that suffer from poor quality build, I reckon I can use RP-HT970's VMSS control circuit to rewire the walkman headphone and create an hybrid of the two, so here are a few picture of my VMSS mod. Enjoy
Now I have a one piece fully working VMSS headphone
BTW, if any of you wonder, those above are the only good VMSS headphones ever made by Panasonic, anything after those two are pretty much trash.
