This was an assault on Iron Maiden orchestrated by Sharon involving Kelly and some of Sharon's band's members. The incident has been well documented around the associated band's websites and was a petty attempt by Sharon to undermine the band in front of fans. Quite amazing, considering that by most accounts, Iron Maiden was the main draw at the festival anyway and filled in for Ozzy several times when he was 'unable' to perform. I was actually going to go to this show, thank god I decided not too. If I were on of those fans I would be asking for a refund ASAP. Luckily, this has totally backfired in her face and Iron Maiden played out the set like the true professionals they are.

Wow, Something must have went south there.. Too bad. Ozzy and Maiden = good show. I have been to three Ozzfests all great and yes, Sharon usually gets on stage and comments about "something". Cool info. Thanks!

The CNN article is somewhat misleading. These were not Ozzfest fans that did this; eyewitnesses in the pit reported that a large group of people wearing bandanas to cover their faces (Kelly included) were admitted into the pit by Ozzfest security just seconds before Iron Maiden took to the stage. This was a well planned and executed ambush. If anyone can't tell by now, I'm utterly disgusted by this. Not just because I'm an Iron Maiden fan (which I am) but it's just a total spit in the face to all of the fans that pay good money to attend these kind of events. I sincerely hope that there are serious reprecussions felt by those who planned and participated in this.

that just sucks... as a maiden fan...

I could say a bunch of stuff that would be stereotypical, and piss off a bunch of people, but I refrain.

I wish I could just go to a gig, kick back on the lawn and enjoy the music Like I used to. Why do people have to complicate simple pleasures in life... It didnt used to be like that a very short time ago.

Thanks for all the added info, third_eye. I'm going to edit the title of the thread in order to reflect a clearer perspective of the unfortunate event.

As a metal fan and a prson who worked with/in the crew of many bands and many concerts I must state that what happened that night was completely not called for...

I hope the ozzfest is boycotted and I will do my best to have the next chicago ozzfest (when ozzy takes stage) haves some "issues".....

I am pissed!

Hey hey, I was wondering when someone would post about this...

I was there, and boy was it intense! Maiden came on, and as soon as Bruce Dickinson came onstage, he was blasted by eggs and god knows what else by people in the pit. He gave dirty looks to them and gave them a good tongue lashing during the instrumental part of the first song. None of it was heard though through the PA. After the song ended, stage hands had to wipe all of the steps and most of the floor because of the eggs. During the song in which Bruce waved the British flag around, some guy ran out from *backstage* and waved a large American flag around. He had some writing on his back but I could not make it out (eyewitnesses said it said "Don't F with Ozzy" or something). He was "escorted out" by security. Bruce was very visibly livid.

A minute later, the flag guy came out again on the side of the stage by where the stacks of speakers were on the right. He then went all through the aisles waiving the huge (and I mean HUGE) American flag. Then during another song, somebody spat on Bruce repeatedly. He had security get the person out of the pit. Bruce said if he wasn't going to get sued, he would rip the person's head off and kick their butt. He was furious.

During the rest of the set, the power to the PA (main speakers) went out FOUR times. It was so obvoius that someone *cough* Sharon *cough* was behind this. Bruce looked very embarrassed and urged the crowd to sing along even though the power was out. Finally, as the band was finishing up their last song and taking their bows, the announcer guy (or it could have been a recorded track) kept chanting "Ozzy, Ozzy, Ozzy". Bruce and the band had enough and walked off stage. Everyone in the crowd was stunned.

Just then, Sharon Osbourne came onstage and thanked the members of Maiden and their crew, but she had to say that Bruce was a ... (rhymes with brick). People booed her from where I was. She said that Bruce made fun of Ozzy and berated Ozzfest and all sorts of bad things. She basically said he was a jerk and he was a mistake having him on Ozzfest...

That said, what Sharon did was humiliate not only Bruce, but the rest of his band whom she had no beef with. She pissed off the audience (half of them had Maiden shirts on). She made herself look really bad. Sure, Bruce could very well be a jerk, but take it up with him and only him. She made everyone suffer instead of just him. There were scores of angry people just around where I was sitting. Really classy, Sharon.

Overall a very odd day indeed. I got there very early. It was very hot. Most of the bands were bad. I went for Sabbath, and they blew me away like always. I must say, the thing that struck me as very odd was the unusually tameness of the crowd this year. The bonfires were rather small this year, and let me tell you they had PLENTY of fuel this year. used cups and misc. stuff all over the lawn after the second stage ended. I remember in 2000, Sully from Godsmack had to tell the lawn audience to take a chill on the fires being started. And when Sully tells the lawn crowd to calm down.... DAYUMMMM!!!!

Edit: bhd812: why would you make Ozzy suffer? He had nothing to do with it. It was Sharon's idea. I have a feeling Sharon will hear the backlash for a while on this one. Besides, Ozzy is calling it quits for the most part after this year with regards to Ozzfest. He said he will only play select dates *cough* Devore, LOL *cough* in the future. That does not rule out the toned down arena tours though.

wow, talk about the all time backfires...

why the hell did she do all of this? What was the purpose?

I mean, serious, are these people so stupid? I kind of hope she gets sued.

As you may know being a metal fan is that we stick together, esp we stick with our bands! If someone screws our band we get pissed, if someone screws our friends (other metal heads) we get back!

this is something that should of been taken off stage! not infront of the fans and esp not in a concert were half the fans were there to see Maiden! Like I said if that happened in chicago and to slayer the year I had 2nd row tickets I would be arrested! it seriously piss'es me off that much!!!!

Even after the fact they did what they did with the eggs you still NEVER CUT OFF THE P.A. OR GET ON THE P.A. during someones elses set...thats commandment #1 in concerts!!!!!

this is the second worse thing that happened by a band (ozzy and his messed up family) in metal history....(first was metallica going after napster, which they had the rite only one probelm...all the people that were downloading were METALLICA FANS!...in other words Metallica went against there own fans).

I gurrantee you all ozzfest rolls in tinley park next year there having p.a. probelms if I have to cut the lines myself!!!

I am seriously pissed off !!!!
and why ozzy? ozzy and sharon and there mistakes of children they have are all one! when I heard about this I threw out all my sabbath cd's...byebye nomore ozzy

Aw, you should've mailed them to me, who knows, some of them might have been led by Dio

But yeah, I agree with everyones' disgust at this sh**. Nobody messes with Maiden, and personally if I were them, I'd boycott future Ozzfest shows and cut the Osbournes off until they squeal like starving pigs. They don't need to be doing that to a band that is there to do their thinng, much less a band that is still as capable as they ever were at tearing the house down, and even a band that was more concerned with giving the fans what they want: to be rocked. No more stupid stunts, no more lame distractions.
Osbournes, run to the hills, run for your lives

So she came on stage and trash-talked Bruce Dickinson...THE Bruce Dickinson. Didn't they know about the cowbell?
