Overall, would the Shure SRH840s be the best, closed headphones for under $150?

I would only recommend the HD25s if you're on the commute and need very good isolation. In comparison the 840 is laidback with a bigger soundstage and the HD25s are a bit more aggressive with great PRaT and a narrow soundstage. The HD25s have brighter treble while the 840s are more neutral.

I would also recommend you look into the KRK KNS 8400. They are extremely detailed and balanced with good soundstage but less bass than the 840s. They're more comfortable as well.

I just got them. In comparison to my KSC75, everything is so much more detailed, everything is more refined and I hear details that I haven't noticed before. However, music does sound a bit "muddy" and these headphones are HUGE (makes my head seems 2x as large).
