I'm not keen enough to buy that system for 35k; btw I think he's actually selling a complete orpheus system PLUS one HE-90 headphone

But, I really am considering the R-10 and/or the Ed7... They happen to be the other two I reaaallly want soon (thus twin Sony & Ultrasone) but that will mean = I can haz teh bigz chunk in me walletzz

Can anyone give me the history of the Orpheus system? Is it ridiculously rare or something? Or is it amazingly good? I mean 35k, jeez, you could buy a nice car with that.

I believe there are 300 complete Orpheus Systems consisting of the HEV90 amp HE90 headphone. And a second batch of about 38 HE90’s was produced by Sennheiser 2 years ago for a world total of about 338 HE90’s.

“Is it amazingly good?”

Yes.

$13,000.00 IIRC...the last batch of HE90 sold for around 4K or so, the heapdhones alone.

I remember while Jan was trying to order them, that was the initial price he quoted IIRC...IMO 35K is a total rip off, that is three times the original price...but if the gass keep on going on, pretty soon everyhting will cost an arm and a leg....

BTW second time

Well now I'm not sure if it was in Euro or in USD...

... And probably you are right and it was quoted in Euro, as he did all the findings there in Germany...But anyway, two years ago, the Euro was not at the rate it is now, and the prices were considerably closer, maybe around the same value, not sure...

Don't forget that the USD vs. EURO exchange rate were closer back then in 2005.
I just checked October 1st. 2005 as an example -> "1 Euro (EUR) = 1.20190 US Dollar (USD)" (OANDA.com). Which mean €4500 = $5400 back then.

More than double that in two years is a bit high, imo.
