Oriolus Traillii Electrostatic Hybrid IEM discussion thread

One of the great things about the Trailli for me is that it doesn’t sound crappy even if I just pair it with my phone or laptop. If I pair it with the Orpheus, does that mean it will sound worse with non-audiophile sources that may not have as much power now?
No, as with Traillii, the improvement is present across all sources. When connected to my iPhone I typically use the Dragonfly Red, but it still sounds great using the iPhone dongle as well.

Good to know. Orpheus seems quite good but a bit expensive and First Times seems like a good in-between. On a scale of 1-10 with 1 being the stock cable and 10 being the Orpheus, where does the First Times land in terms of performance?

The performance of First Times may also be really, really good. But it makes the mids thin compared to the stock cable and thus First Times takes away from The Bird what is actually its strength: the vocals.

First Times is not a good recommendation for me.

I have tried different cables and I find the stock cable the best for the timbre. May I give you some advice? Save the money and stay stock.

I just wish the stock cable was a little more ergonomic. especially since the iem's themselves are so comfortable after settling on a shallow fit with spinfit cp145s. the fit was good with the spinfit cp155s as well but the sound wasn't as open or spacious

Yes, unfortunately the general problem is with +2w cables.

It’s perfectly fine for me. Yes, I guess it has become somewhat more pliable over time. But it will never be as supple as a non sleeved cable.

I agree with you, the stock has a more airy sound

When I compared the First Times against the stock cable I did not clearly hear a positive difference. Once I connected the Orpheus, I immediately heard the difference, especially in the bass. That is why my recommendation is to stay stock unless you like and can save up for Orpheus.

I also think there might be an Orpheus lite now, or a cable between First Times and Orpheus that you may wish to checkout. As you are in the US, contact MusicTeck.com and speak with Andrew. He can let you know what is available and any specials he might have. You can mention my name and this site if you wish. Hopefully he won’t increase the price!

Update on the topic: The Bird with stock cable vs First Times.

Contrary to what I've said in the past, The Bird is pretty much slowed down by the stock cable. The mids are too pronounced and central, the sound is slow, the treble and sparkle can't come to the fore, the sound lacks information and yes even the soundstage is not that holographic. All that changes with First Times: this cable elevates The Bird to a new level, gives it new luster. What happens here now is this. In general, the frequencies balance in such a way that the mids and bass are no longer so dominant, there is more harmony with the highs, this has the effect of giving The Bird more dynamics, air and "sparkle". I really like this. The soundstage clearly gains holography, the sound is overall bigger and there is more resolution. The vocals remain best with The Bird - in this area The Bird remains dominant even compared to other TOTLs I have tried. Of course, this is my personal opinion.

Honestly, I was this close to selling The Bird until I had the idea to give it a 2nd chance with First Times. It struck me that I had listened to it too infrequently, and now I know why...

Update 2 after my typical "evening critical listening": I'm ruddering back again. FT is certainly technically better, but the tuning is different. I would not consider FT as an upgrade, but as a sidegrade. Honestly, the stock cable is really good from the tuning point of view, really unique. FT is just different (and technically better). Still, I'm sticking with stock.

I really think Oriolus needs to move on...they’re almost as slow and almost as good as Sony with their Z1R 🤔😴
They have and Oriolus Traillii Ti is the real deal man. I had them for over a month now and listen to these every day with the LP6Ti. It's a USD8500 IEM though.
Personally, I have owned the Black Erlkonig, Noble Damascus and Viking, Fir M5, Odin, Fourte Noir, King Arthur and Obravo CU, the vocals on this are just superb. Still 12 drivers IEM but they have improved on the bass which is now punchy and popping and the treble extensions sparkles are well balanced with no distortions at any volume. It retains that very organic vocal which we all like and still very smooth and aluring. The imaging is just unbelievable with the sound stage as wide and holographic with distintive layering. I currently enjoy these like the first day I had them. I chose to use an EA cable to give it a more natural, thinner sound but the cable that comes with is already very good if you like the dark background/Hifi feel you get with an Orphy cable. Check it out, I don't regret getting this at all:wink:

I decided to let my The Bird fly somewhere else :bird:. So I sell my special edition Red&Black in mint condition, of course with complete accessories package and proof of purchase from February 23. The price is 3800€ in the EU / Germany (Berlin). As soon as I can, I will make the listings. Due to my busy schedule I will be home only in the afternoons / evenings in the next few days and it is already dark here, so decent photos cannot be taken. Anyway, if you are interested, please contact me via PM. If this post is not allowed, just say so and I'll delete it.

No, I am in the process of slowly reducing my collection. I feel kind of bad about using The Bird too infrequently, considering its value. And then I can finally give more attention to my beloved Mentor, which for me holds a special place in my heart (and ears) - as you can see in my avatar 😌.

Sorry, off topic. What dap do you use with UM Mentor?
