I love the hype train. I seem to ride it regularly.

It is nice to see a new player in the market. No way to know how this one will work out yet. Hoping for reasonable price and great sound!!

weren't they at the show, are there any impressions yet?

They weren't available for listening at CanJam. Jude had them on Saturday and was listening to them. He put them on John and me to take pictures, but he wouldn't let us see what they were. I heard them for a few seconds before someone walked over and Jude pulled them off--not long enough to get an impression.

I must have missed it somewhere along this thread...  but do we have an ETA?

Release date is by end of the year. Will work very well off an I Phone, and is a good match for the headphone amp of the BDP105 dvd player (which I own), unlike Audeze or other orthos. More information to come over the next month or so, before it's released.

This is all from customer service at OPPO.

But, it's also fun to speculate.

So highly efficient like the HE-400? $500 range or less doesn't sound improbable anymore.

Though as I typed that in, I remembered the LCD2 sounded good off anything I plugged it into as well... :frowning2:

That looks like it's going to cost at least $1000.

Digging that toroidal transformer... it's like electronic porn for me.

OUCH!  $1000?  Please don't give Oppo any ideas...

Oppo, if $1000, no offense but you know LCD2/LCD3's is just right around the corner right???

No, not the headphone. I'm talking about that dac/amp posted in the post above mine.

Their Blu-Ray/DVD players are like $1200... so yeah... I don't see this costing less than a grand. I expect a LOT more, actually, but I hope I'm wrong.

Don't forget, Yamaha were bundling great-sounding planar magnetics free with their electronic organ in the '70s. I don't see why a bang-for-buck ortho in 2014 should be $600.

Because they shouldn't. A little more than the Fostexes if they are built with better-looking materials, perhaps, but price talk here is pretty insane. Seriously, anyone who things that a little piece of mylar with magnets on both sides should cost as much as an NRTL-safety approved disk player with licensed IP from just about everyone under the sun is living in some bizzaroworld bubble.

At $150-200 I'm interested just because I like the way Oppo does buisness - they replaced the disk loading mechanism in my BDP-83 out of warranty for free, because they said it was a known issue - but much more than that would be a little like...Lexicon putting an Oppo disk player in a new case, and adding several grand to the price! (See http://www.audioholics.com/blu-ray-and-dvd-player-reviews/lexicon-bd-30-blu-ray-oppo-clone/oppo-inside-lexicon-outside-1 )

Actually, Oppo has a universal SACD/DVD-A/Blu-Ray/etc. player for $500.
