hi loud tiger,

I own the ksc35's, 50's, sony ex70's, sony v6's, grado 60's, and senn px200's.

I've found that nothing really duplicates the 35's sound...its unique to itself...but of course you can find things that are similar and also sound better.

I would definitely agree that the sounds of the 35 and v6 are for two different tastes. To me, the grado 60's are more on line with the sound of the 35's...less bass with more high end detail. You made a comment about your roommate so i'm not sure if you are specifically looking for closed phones.

yeah, i have V6s. i'm thinking of getting the K240s.. do they leak a lot? i've heard its sound compared to the Senn 580

i think the bass on the ksc35's is pretty ridiculous (good) for how small and crappy build headphone it is.

if you like that really bassy sound i'd steer away from the akg271s. Their bass is really tight and focused but doesn't ''wow'' you like the 35's

don't know much about the 240s but people reccomend them around here as the "groovelizers"

i take this term to indicate some pretty flowin' sweet bass, mids etc.

Step up would be a phone from the Grado line. The higher the better

Edit: Oh, damn closed. Just do a search on Ultrasone HFI 650 / 700 (Trackmaster or DVD, which has more bass) or Audio Technica ATH-A500 or A900.
Those are the classical closed phones almost everybody loves

Definitely higher up if you can afford it. I got my SR-80's and was a bit dissappointed by the low amount of bass compared to my KSC-50's at first. The detail, resolution, and bass tightness and impact easily make up for this small weakness IMO. I can't stand to listen to my KSC-50's much anymore unless it's a song that needs bass. The high end is just mud compared to the SR-80's in that area.

I would consider the A500 as the next step up from the KSC35 and V6, among cheaper closed phones, unless you insist on open phones. I'm currently trying to decide between them and the HFI-500/650 for my next closed phone. So maybe the rest of you have more to offer on these headphones....

with the K240S and Grado SR-80, am i going to feel a lack of bass? i'm coming from MDR-V6s and Koss, both pretty hard hitters in the bass area
