I have and love the M50s but I want to also own an open back headphone for diversity. My budget for a headphone is at 200$-300$ and my choices that i have been looking at are the DT880 and AKG 701 or 702. Both of these head phones are being listed on amazon for 205$ each and wanted to take advantage of the deal. If their are any other headphones that i should consider please inform what you think would be best for my listening. I run my music out of my ipod (but will invest in an amp if i have to in order to support the headphones). I listen to mainly metal, rock, and rap. Comfort is not that big of an issue and neither is isolation because i will be listening to these from my house. Also, if i need an amp for either the Dt880 or the AKG 701 which are my two options at the moment, it would also be appreciated if you guys gave me amp suggestions that  would be 200$ or less.

Where did you find these headphones for $205? Are you talking about used?

dt880/600 would be a stellar choice.

you'll definitely need to amp them.
i'd say they pair well with tube amps.
so an inexpensive tube amp like a lafigaro or little dot or something else would be spot on for them...

Ive heard things about the harsh sound of the Dt880 600 ohms compared to the 250 ohms and I am wondering if the the 600 ohm verision is that much better, and if it is which amp specifically would be the best to reduce the harsh sound.

EDIT- Is it a must to have a tube amp for the DT880 and not just a normal one like the V-CAN. Also, whats the difference between the DT990 and the 880.

I don't believe it needs a tube amp but I have to believe it would smooth every thing out a bit if thats what you were worried about.

I found the

Little Dot LD 1+ Gallstone Hybrid Headphone Amplifier on ebay; would it be powerful enough to support the dt880 600ohm?

And the Qinpu A3 Hi-End Mini Tube Headphone Transistors Amp.

The Little Dot you mentioned should do a decent job of powering them. FWIR they really do well with low impedance cans.

The 225 won't need an amp if you dont have one :)
