The wifi is pretty much dead and now that I have Tidal, I'd like a wifi DAP to replace it with for around $2-300.

I'd like:

Tidal and Spotify compatible.

Similar or better SQ
Line out
Physical volume control (when not using line out) not deal killer

This is mainly for a channel stereo setup, headphone out not real important.

The Shanling M3X will have as much of more power, depending on what output Jack and mode setting you use.

Thanks for looking that up .My use is in a 2 channel stereo setup, always use 3.5 mm jack, line out mode. Curious if balanced out could be used in this scenario?

Only use the output type that appropriately matches the input type, or you will burn something out of working order. Even if the battery is the power source, the balanced output current is still not grounded, so sending it to a unbalanced input of a plugged-in amp will send an incorrect power charge and probably damage a component, rendering the amp useless.

I had the 30r and Hiby R2 both. R2 doesn't sound as good as the 30r. Shanling Q1 comes close but it doesn't have streaming. Try to audition the Shanling M3X if you can.
