Hello Head-Fi Community,

I have valued the great information on this site for some time and have just joined the community. As my first post I wanted to inquire on a product that I know has been discussed at length but I could not find specific information on. I have been looking at the Onkyo DP X1A and am settled on this device. Please forgive if this has already been covered. The questions I have is relative to units that are made for the US and units that are made for Japan. I have seen significant variations in price and would appreciate some feedback and guidance on the purchase.

1. I have been told that the USA models are manufactured in Japan and that the Japanese models are manufactured in China. Is this the case and are these units exact from a specs, quality and performance stand point?

2. Has anyone purchase from J-Made (Japanese retailer) on Amazon and or do you have personal experience with units coming from Japan? J-Made confirmed that their Onkyo units are made in China.

3. Do the Japanese units have user functions displayed in English and are parameter and interface identical between both versions?

4. Warranty coverage seems to get a little muddy when purchasing a unit manufactured for a different country of origin. J-Made states that they provide a warranty but I am not sure if this is a solid deal when the rubber would meet the road on coverage. Will a Square Trade or Assurant protection plan properly cover a units defects? Any first hand experience with this scenario?

5. What Japanese stores do you have confidence in or should I bite the bullet and pay full fair for a USA version?

6. Last, I am running Shure SRH1540 cans and Shure SE535 IE's. Does anyone have any recommendations on balanced cables for both of these models? Is it worth the expense over getting a balance 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter for the Onkyo?

Thank you for the great support and information. Looking forward to contributing where I can.

Kevin

From what I heard onkyo support really don't know about the dpx1 and warranty will be hard also I heard some had some QC issues.
