The battery drain problem fixed itself today. Probably some kind of weird activity by the CPU that caused it. will never know :)
BTW, I am using an app called Battery Booster for a while on my android devices and it is very effective in preserving the battery when you are not using the device. Highly recommended (free version is good).

Hi,
I do a lot of running and cycling with my phone on my arm or handlebar.
Would using the CMX1 like that be damaging?

There are no moving parts and as long as you have a good way to protect the device from hitting other objects or falling,  you should be fine. the Onkyo is heavy though so that is something you need to keep in mind compared to much lighter DAPs out there.

Man, how can you guarantee you won't fall off a bike? Needn't be your fault either.

I mean, for that kind of money I would keep that Onkyo thing in a safe and duct-tape a photo of it on my bike just to show off to other people etc.

True, but that is the same with any phone; and higher end iPhones or Android go for the same kind of money.
I need a phone with me, for emergencies or even direction sometimes if I go off the Garmin route, it will not fit in a cycling Jersey pocket...

And honestly, if I fall off my bike my health and my bicycle cost are my primary concern.

So the difference between the Onkyo and another phone is that I am concerned about the vibrations and their impact on sound over time.

I use iphone cause it's been tested for that kind of activity.

I doubt the Onkyo was designed with active users in mind, so if this is a must, just grab an iphone.

Wait, you're trying to use the Balanced jack with an unbalanced cable? Couldn't that damage something?

Actually I had the same reaction but it looks to be a 2.5mm trrs 4 pole to 3.5mm trrs 4 pole extender. I've never heard of using 3.5 mm jacks for balanced use before. I'd be worried about putting a 4 pole mic plug in there though and causing some chaos.
