ONIX Alpha XI1 - Smallest & Most Affordable ONIX DAC - High-Power Portable USB DAC/AMP

Hello @Shanling ,

I'm reaching out regarding a recurring distortion issue with the Onix device when paired with certain equipment—especially with the Galaxy S24. I've discovered a temporary workaround: when the interference becomes too strong, flipping the Type-C connector (i.e., reversing its orientation) on either the phone or the DAC appears to ease the issue. Although this isn’t a permanent solution, it tends to alleviate the interference for a short period.

We previously discussed this matter, and I had offered my assistance with testing any potential fixes, but I haven't heard back from you. Could you please provide any updates or insights on this issue?

Thank you!

I wanted to add that reconnecting the connector by reversing its orientation does not completely eliminate the interference—it only temporarily reduces its intensity and impact on sound quality. However, as I mentioned earlier, after a while the interference builds up again, worsening as if by a cumulative effect.

There is so far no update on this.

Really enjoying this combo for past few weeks.

Onyx Alpha Xl1 - ZiSin A01 8 Core cable - Kiwi Ears x HBB Punch (with Acoustune AEX70 tips).

My music selection is synth pop, modern dance and pop-rock.

Really excellent combination for me.

Does anyone use this amp with an iPhone 14 Pro?

It works with a USB cable (it came with and other USB-C) with my iPad Air (M1) but it doesn't with my iPhone 14 Pro (lightning), using the official Apple charging cable or 3rd party cable. The dac doesn't light up when plugged in. Does the iPhone not supplying enough power?

It should.
I have an iPhone 15... works fine although it has usb connector.

Try flipping the lighting connector. I've had some devices not work properly one way, flipped/rotated it so other side is up and it worked.
Where did you buy?

@Shanling can help...

iPhone 15 is USB-C. 14 Pro is still Lightning. I know lighting is USB 2 speed, and iPhone 15 (not pro) is USB 2 also, not sure if the socket itself makes a difference.

It does work on the work's M1 Mac Mini, my M4 Mac Mini and my M1 iPad Air.

I will try flipping the cable and report back though.

edit- Just tried it with both sides of the lightning connector. No luck.

Is your iPhone the only device with a lighting port?
Not sure which devices have been updated...

Ok, so I had to glue in a USB-C cable into my unit... but for you... I pulled it. ( I use loctite blue )

I then tried a lighting cable along w a USB-A to USB-C connector to my iPad 12pro. No Luck.

Since my USB-C socket is a bit mucked up. (I used to carry it on my iPhone while walking around and that put a bit of stress on the connection....)
So I had to glue a cable in... (One of the YT reviewers recommended it for the dongle dacs. )

Have you contacted @Shanling or the reseller?

It should work. AFAIK @Shanling did most of their testing w iPhones.

Pls keep us posted.

Guys and girls , I have tried and tested this DAC so many months now . Honestly the first firmware this DAC had when I purchased it , It was the best soundings . I have reverted back the version . 1.2 and 1.3 even 1.1 sounds CONGESTED!!! I have plenty of DACs in my possession and I am not deaf , It sounded congested after the update and perhaps with warmer bass response . First firmware from factory was open and airy , instrument separation was phenomenal for 100$
