ONIX Alpha XI1 - Smallest & Most Affordable ONIX DAC - High-Power Portable USB DAC/AMP

That is not a solution unless if provided from the supplier I think, as nowhere the customers have been informed that so as to work needs external power bank with an adapter.

After all it is a dongle dac.

Fiio KA17 gives the option for one more port for USB so as to connect to power bank with the option to choose the mode that you want to work on.

I think every user should push Shanling / ONIX to find out solution about that when exists, we should not close our mouth.. As if external cable needs to be buying (buy cables which means trial and error) and powerbank then the cost of the dac can rise up much more than the price that is highlited.

I'm waiting for my unit so I can test with Pixel 6a.

I agree that it's the responsibility of the manufacturer to guarantee that the device works as advertised. If they had listed out which phone brands have been tested, people could've made informed decisions.

For now, just keep checking my database and also encourage owners to send info: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1X5SuH1UnH5ZUYV8YgXXP6J5obNvEBW7YtMa8zm7-P6Q/edit?usp=sharing

Shanling also has access to this.

They would not only need to test it with every brand but also with Each model from every brand en also take into account possible regional differences between models. This would be an Impossible task especially when also taking into account DAPs. Shanling needs to make sure Onix is Standard compliant, but so too the phone and player manufacturers for their devices

I may do not know for sure and the question is not to me, but if I am not mistaken, as this issue exist only in this dac and not to any other dongle dac on the market, then the quality control of the manufacturer has not fulfilled one or more boxes.

That is the way I see the issue.

Moreover, as I guess no other manufacturer is able to test every brand and model,
then I guess again as I mention before that something that should working properly don't, because then this would be an issue with all the other dongle dac/amps of other manufacturers too.

I had the same trouble with the iBasso DC04 pro not working properly and disconnecting all the time on my Pixel 6A.

OMG 😱 I'm lightly shocked by what Andy replied when comparing Onix XL1 to some desktop dac/amps.

So as I see that, from customers we have been transformed to beta testers in this hobby too..

Off topic, but I see lately many issues with dacs, amps , tuning changes from iem manufacturers and so on..

A bit sad..and we give in to that..and the contradictory is that together as audio lovers to protect our ourselves and demand for better audio products we usually stand up for the products. I am not talking about this thread

I hope Andy to not pass to the dark side of reviewing, as I really like his reviews.

About this answer as I am not a user of ifi Zen products so as to be sure, but I think if he talks specifically about 4.4bal usage of dongles it may be not that wrong. And as we have seen some times the numbers that we get as specs for many products in real life testing we see that do not always tell the truth.

When I receive mine I will test against Samsung S22 Ultra. Previously I had the Shanling UA5 and it also had problems. Shanling ultimately released a firmware fix for the UA5, but only on-demand - for some reason they chose to not release it broadly (my guess is that while it addressed Samsung related issues it created problems on other phones). Seems Shanling continues to have problems with Samsung (in a prior post they noted working with Samsung devices is very tough).
