RMSZero - actually we welcome anti shock, when it is losless, the thing is most PCDPs use ADPCM for compression for the skip buffer, which makes the sound worse.


As for source versus headphones - I would rather listen to my Grado SR-60s (Which I hate in comparison with the HD600s) out of my Sony D-242 + Airhead over listening to my HD600s out of my Panasonic SL-SX270, since it sounds so bad. So bad in fact that it sounds trashy on my Koss KSC-50s.

OTOH, once you have a decent source, the headphones are a much more important upgrade, then amplification is next most important.

There are some legendary budget players that are supposedly better than most everything by Sony / Panasonic out of the headphone jack if you want to listen to a high-impedence headphone, because they have powerful built in amps.

But I think the Sonys and Panas have better line-out quality?

They use COMPRESSION????? Holy crap, I had no idea. How frickin lame is that???
