Older DT880 to the newer DT880, any sound difference?

Hi there;

I still use the old DT990 from the 80's and love them over my HD600.

What similarities and differences are there between the old DT990 and the newer DT880?

I also used to own a DT880M from the 80's and hated the sound. Sounded too colored - sounded like "plastic" (can't find a better description)

HD650 = Darth Vader
HD600 = Luke Skywalker
AKG 701 = HanSolo
DT880 = Don Knots

I'm not a total star wars geek, but I know the movies as I watched them quite a few times. What's this supposed to mean? Does the K701 shoot first?

The newer DT 880 was released in 2002(or early 2003), with an impedance of 250 ohm. And the latest version was released this year, of course. My comparison of the two is here if anyone's interested: http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=167969

Thanks for the comparo. Excellent info.
