Official X1 stable firmware discussion thread--version 2.0: Added library search function, Recently Played playlist, ReplayGain

Is it only my impression or in fact the UI navigation since 1.5 is now painfully slow?

Things such as entering in a folder or going back to upper level folder (in folder navigation list) is really slow now.

Also skipping to next track takes a long time now to update the UI (the next track starts playing almost immediately, but the UI takes almost 3 seconds to update).

I have to say that 1.3 was already somewhat slow, but it was acceptable.

Now, in 1.5 and 1.6 the navigation through folders and library is really slow.

While I understand that when using library it could be slower due to the dependency on the database, I would expect that navigating via folder structure directly in microSD should be much faster!

I will install tonight as well.

I liked the removal of the 5800 limit, as well as the improved behavior of the back button.

To be honest, I still would like to see in the future:

1) Use back/prev buttons to scroll "pages" in any list (coarse grain navigation, multiple items at a time) and keep the scroll wheel as is (for fine grain navigation)

2) Make the volume buttons always work as volume buttons. Please remove that stupid behavior of changing tracks with the volume buttons. There is already the next/prev buttons for this purpose.

Thank you and please continue improving the firmware. X1 is a great player that just needs some small firmware tweaks to become an excellent player!

I disagree with your refusal to change the behavior of tracks changing when a  volume button is held down when the screen is off. Your reason is that the volume shouldn't change by more than one increment for safety reasons. First of all, for safety reasons, sometimes it is necessary to decrease the volume rapidly when the volume is suddenly much too high. As for the danger of the volume being raised while the volume button is held down while the display is off, that seems to be a valid point. At first I though perhaps raise the volume but at a much slower rate than when the display is on(perhaps 1/5th the speed?) although if the player is in a backpack it might not be so easy to get to. Why not have holding down the up  volume button do nothing when the screen is off? Why have the player change tracks? Perhaps a proper locking function could be put in place so that the screen timeout isn't the same thing as locking the player?

Why doesn't the X1 firmware have a system setting where one can set the maximum sound level like the M3 firmware has?

Why does the X1 have a maximum standby time of only 8 minutes?????? Does the player consume so much power in stanby mode? I think some of my other players have idle shut down times settable for up to an hour.

Hi Ive just bought the X1 in Black, I find it hard to understand why the software isn't suitable for the product, slow , unreliable and quite frankly badly thought out,the text is too small and the display very poor, how this company has the nerve to produce such poor products is beyond the realms of understanding.., if this was being produced in Europe they would be in court as products have to be fit for purpose, and clearly this is not, shamefull is the best description I can give and I would not recommend this to anyone.

I don't find the X1 to be slow. How many songs did you put on yours? What format are your tags in? I use ID3V2.3 ISO 8859-1. tags for my mp3 files .Are your songs heavily nested(folders in folder in folders, etc.) Do you have embedded album art? Having a complicated file structure and embedded album art might slow the player down quite a bit. So might having too many songs on it. Which card do you have in it? Did you use the player to format the card? This seems important to do for larger cards to get better performance from the player. Did you upgrade to the latest firmware(1.6)? The X1 does have a very primitive user interface compared to Rockbox, which I use on other players. It seems like Rockbox is being developed for the fiio x1. I wonder when it will be completed and stable?

I find these questions pointless but for the sake of your peace of mind  2189 music files are on my player with FW 1.6 70% are Flac ripped with Phile ripper,  20% are apple lossless ripped with iTunes ,10% are mp3s ripped with iTunes  give or take the odd file, there are no album art files and Blue Harvest was used to remove files that would normally be ignored by other players but this one tries to play them. My albums are sorted into single folders 95 folders one folder per cd, I have no idea what the Tags are but they came from iTunes.

I have updated the same version of the FW three times now as the player came with v1.5 and no silicon case, first update failed and it had to be reset and reloaded, the second update seemed to work but would not in fact play, the card was formatted in OS X el Capitan 10.11.2 after the first failure as I had already formatted it with the player on 1.5 , I guessed this was a bad format when it failed to play.

On the third load of v1.6, Im getting fed up of this game, all I want is ,to put my files on the player and listen to some music, the same way I have with my iriver, and my iPod for years, hoping for better sound, I then formatted the card Samsung Memory 64 GB Evo MicroSDXC UHS-I Grade 1 Class 10, in the player and added my music, it takes about 1.5 seconds to go from menu item to menu item and the time out function only seems to work intermittently , place on pause and its hit or miss if it ever turns off.

Why does it not have a black on white theme. at least its playing music now

I could go on for ages about this . I find it hard to understand why this player has such poor software, Ive had a few players in the past, and this is my 1st High res player. It and all the other Players should be made to be user friendly and to work out of the box. this is terrible and we should not put up with it.

Thats it Ive said my bit , I hope thats put your mind at rest I'm going to buy a new iPod that at least will work and I won't have to muck about with it for days weeks months.

If your files are alternating between a few different formats, that will slow the player down considerably. it even says so in the manual. Why use Apple lossless? Why not convert those to FLAC for consistency? I don't know about Apple lossless tags or FLAC tags, as I don't use those formats. I know that with mp3 files a player can slow down quite substantially if it encounters tag formats it doesn't expect. For example in itunes the default is to rip mp3 tags to ID3V2.4 format, however I know my Sandisk Clip Sport player would choke on those, and the Fiio players might not handle them well either. For mp3 files my tags are ID3V2.3 ISO 8859-1 format.

Menu slowness is the issue, not playing slowness. Total waste of £100 and 2 days of my time.I had already placed these files on my One plus one phone with Black Music Player app and they play pause and navigate perfectly. On the X1 very poor, this Fiio X1 goes in the sin bin of Electronics that don't work .Dont waste your time trying to help, I don't want it, I want a player that works without in-depth tech knowledge . All the very best to everyone on the forums and happy new year !

I guess you've just got bad luck with your unit, sorry to hear that since I'm enjoying my X1 a lot, specially after years using an iPod Classic. I would then recommend to use an amplifier connected to the digital output of your iPod, that improves the sound quality a lot.

Yes, the UI (User Interface) when navigating library is much slower in 1.5/1.6 when compared to 1.3.

I suspect this is related to the changes Fiio did to remove the limit of 5800 music tracks in the library.

However the file navigation (folder structure) is also slower, and this is not expected since this mode does not use the library database.

Imo the sound quality got better 1.5-1.6 so I guess it's fair

Recently bought a X1, updated it to 1.6. Most of my song songs are mp3 (i didnt have a dap capable of lossless). All my songs are tagged properly (title, artist, album, genre, year, album art).one issue that i face is when i go to all song category it shows the file name rather than the tile (eg it shows eminem - stan.mp3 rather the tile stan). am i only one facing it, another issue is there is a lag after the song is selected and from menu to menu.i use a strontium 32gb uhs1 class 10 mem  card i hope thats enough
Thank you

There is an option to configure this. Check "Settings" -> "File name display" and try changing this option. It can be configured either to "Title" or "File Name". I am wondering if you player is configured to show "File Name", so changing it to "Tile" would solve your issue.

Thank you dsouza
But the setting that u said brings changes only to the "NOW PLAYING SCREEN".
What i meant is from main menu i go to category option and take anything, be it artist, genre etc , when i scroll for music i get the file name rather than the title.Usually they way i make the file name is "ARTIST - TITLE OF THE SONG.mp3", (this helps me arrange my music properly in pc). since no title tag is given importance what happenes is all the songs(FILE NAME) of artist in alphabetical order come up.
eg: it shows like this .
ACDC - Back In Black.mp3
ACDC- Shoot to Thrill.mp3
Adele- Hiding my heart.mp3
Adele - Rumor has it.mp3

rather than showing like this

Back in Black
Hiding my heart
Rumor has it
Shoot to thrill

Now this is happening because the firmware gives less importance to Title tag

I wish this could be changed
