Hi all - so I'm really excited to announce this. I've been sitting on this secret for months and it has been killing me...

Ultimate Ears has just announced a new product and we'll be publicly debuting it at this meet. And this is no ordinary product. Or launch. This is about as exciting as it gets in the world of headphones. The minute I saw this, I recognized it as all of our collective dreams coming true. Today, we are debuting a personalized custom tuned in-ear monitor. What's your favorite sound signature?

You'll get to listen at the meet. We'll be posting a sign up sheet later on so everyone can get a turn. I'm happy to answer any questions about these in advance. And without spoiling anything, I believe that another one of our members has already had the pleasure of finding his perfect sound and he'll be commenting on that shortly...

Here's the official press release. Enjoy!

Logitech Introduces World’s First Personally Tuned Custom In-Ear Monitors
Ultimate Ears Personal Reference Monitors Are Engineered to Fit, Look and Sound Exactly Like You Want Them To

NEWARK, Calif. — May 31, 2012 — Logitech (SIX: LOGN) (NASDAQ: LOGI) today unveiled the world’s first personally tuned custom in-ear monitors – the Ultimate Ears™ Personal Reference Monitors. Engineered to your exact needs for fit, look and sound, the Ultimate Ears Personal Reference Monitors were created to deliver an experience as personal as your passion for music.
The process begins with our exclusive Personal Reference Tuning Box, which allows you to precisely adjust the sound signature of the monitors based on your listening preferences. The Personal Reference Tuning Box captures your adjustments to the mix of highs, mids and lows, which Ultimate Ears engineers then use to craft Personal Reference Monitors to your very own sound signature based on those exact settings.

“There are some people out there – and we’ve met many of them over the years – that know exactly what they need and want in terms of their sound signature,” said Philippe Depallens, vice president and general manager of Wearables at Logitech. “Our new, handcrafted Ultimate Ears Personal Reference Monitors are designed with these people in mind. The Personal Reference Monitors take custom in-ear monitors to a new level of personalization – creating an audio experience tailored to each individual listener.”

The Ultimate Ears Personal Reference Monitors showcase Ultimate Ears’ expert technology, honed through years of delivering superior audio experiences and include our proprietary five-armature design, a three-way crossover circuit and triple-bore sound channels. Additionally, the detachable, low-profile, low-distortion cable eliminates burdensome Y-joint connectors and is tightly braided to reduce friction, unraveling and tangling.

Ultimate Ears Personal Reference Monitors provide 26 dB of isolation and passive noise cancellation. Similar to our other Custom In-Ear Monitors, they are compatible with wireless transmission systems for the stage and portable media devices. For the first time, there are four custom fine-wood faceplates that will be available exclusively to Ultimate Ears Personal Reference Monitor customers. What’s more, Ultimate Ears Personal Reference Monitors will be the first Ultimate Ears product to come equipped with RewardTag. Through RewardTag, if your Ultimate Ears Personal Reference Monitors are lost or stolen, whoever finds your device can return it through RewardTag and Ultimate Ears will give the individual a reward for their safe return – providing you with extra peace of mind as you travel with your earphones.

Pricing and Availability
The Ultimate Ears Personal Reference Monitors are expected to be available in select locations throughout the U.S. including New York, NY, Nashville, TN, Irvine, CA and Los Angeles, CA beginning in June 2012, for a suggested retail price of $1,999.99. Once you place an order, a personal service specialist will be assigned to guide you through the process of fitting, designing and tuning the Ultimate Ears Personal Reference Monitors. For more information please visit www.logitech.com/ue.

That is some very neat news! After years of playing the trumpet in orchestras and jazz bands, my ears have some odd dips in sensitivity that have made me curious about the plausibility of some compensatory tuning of IEMs.  On a related note, my credit card will officially be left at home on 6/2.  :)

People taking the train should try looking for each other to start jamming on the train, which means somehow being identifiable. I'm aiming for either of the two trains arriving at Babylon just before 9am. I'll be the guy with the salt&pepper pony tail wearing either the official problem solved t-shirt or one of the CanJam shirts. Will be looking for any other obvious headphone geeks, so make yourselves obvious.

Come to think of it, I do look just a tad like my avatar, though I probably won't be wearing jeweler's spectacles.

By the way, I'm notorious for being late (and not showing up?) so don't look for me too hard.

Hey,

At the april nyc audio show i ended up winning a vpi scout + zephyr cartridge + some pre amp.

MSRP is $3500 for all 3. They've all just been sitting in boxes at my parents house. the cartridge was installed (or whatever) on the tone arm. Unfortunately, i'm out of the country right now so i can't come to this meet, but i'm wondering if anyone would be interested in buying this from a family member/friend of mine?

Idk what to ask for it either, but going off some emails i got. i'm assuming 30% off msrp is a good deal for it, so that's what i'm asking. pm if interested.

if i'm unable to sell it and i decide to go the ebay/sell it online route what should i be asking? again everything is brand new.

Dude, I was at that NYC show when you won that TT and pre amp.  You should use the VPI Scout and not be trying to sell it.  You will regret not getting into vinyl some where down the road.

Hey guys.   So I decided not to head out to eastern LI tmrw, which means I'll be coming from home in Manhattan.   Wondering if anyone else coming from Mnhtn would like to meet up at Penn for the trip out?  Or, if anyone happens to be driving out from Manhattan, I would be happy to chip in for gas/tolls if I could hitch a ride.  I'm not bringing a ton of gear, if any (because I don't have it! haha).    Send me a pm - i'll be checking tmrw afternoon and evening.

Just fyi, there are 3 trains from Penn that put you out in Babylon before 10am: 7:45 (8:46), 8:09 (9:27), and 8:39 (9:42) [and a fourth if you take the local from the Jamaica Xfer a couple minutes earlier at 9:04].   And x3 as many more to get you there before 1pm.

Here's the Babylon schedule (left side, pg 2), if it wasn't listed yet on this thread:  http://www.mta.info/lirr/Timetable/Station/BabylonBY5.pdf

And finally, happy to help give direction to out-of-towners if you need it - just give me a shout.  Looking forward to my first-ever meet!

-Will

I'm planning to take 8:09 train from Penn
