Tyll has posted his video review of the HE1000. I haven't watched it yet :)

Great review as expected. Though I'm surprised he didn't mention the distortion he brought up previously in the big sound videos. All headphones are fair game; especially in the $1000 plus bracket; something he made a point of in the ether video.

I can understand how easy it can be to get carried with these though. They are very special.

Great review as expected. Though I'm surprised he didn't mention the distortion he brought up previously in the big sound videos. All headphones are fair game; especially in the $1000 plus bracket; something he made a point of in the ether video.

He did mention some perceived "haziness" in the treble and he mentioned that he thought the transients weren't quite as fast as those of the HD800, even though he seemed to say that he prefers the HE-1000 overall.

In any case, after watching his review, it's now clear why his opinion is so highly regarded.  Really honest and insightful.  He covers a lot of what people have said in the beta tester review, both the pros and the cons.  In the end he calls listening to them the most pleasant (or something like that) headphone listening experience he's ever had.  Really a very well done review.

But where it really matters, the music enjoyment, the HE1000 was far more pleasant and enjoyable. The HD 800 was agressive and analytical, while I just wanted to snuggle up to my music with the HE1000. I think I might have even sucked my thumb just a bit while listening.

I like the above quote from Tyll's review. I resisted sucking my thump, but will give into the emotion now :).

Just listening to my HE1000s with Roger Waters' latest release of The Wall Live ... I got to see this concert back 3 years ago when it came through Toronto and man, the HE1000s are incredible! Simply magical, powerful and expansive headphones!!!

I had it happen to me with my first set. Got it replaced through Amazon. The second set is good

Thanks for commenting. Did it become permanent or was it like the person above if you caught cable it would briefly cut out?

Initially, it was intermittent, when I moved the cables. After that, the left side stopped working, I had to hold the cable in a particular position to get it to work.

The replacement pair did not have these issues.

The HEK benefits from some serious power, I can say that much. Have you considered the new X edition Hifiman is releasing. It's about $1300 cheaper I think, using a lot of the same technology, so it would give you some more to spend on an amp for it. Don't think the Magni/Modi are going to be an ideal pairing for such an amazing headphone.

Wow, that's interesting, I haven't read anything about this. So, are these new Hifiman phones in the performance range of the HE-1000 but simply less luxurious cosmetics?
