Thanks for the tips, much appreciated! I'm gonna strip it from all the unnecessary drivers and programs and will use it exclusively as a media server, running it in safe mode.

You're welcome--if you have another hard drive, you can see if that might be the issue. There are drive and hardware testing programs, but they'll likely crash in the middle of running. Still might be worth a try, good luck!
