NOS DAC better than Nobsound TDA1387??

The problem is , the TDA1543 is treated as a budget DAC with inferior usb of coax input implementation. I think they don't properly understand the TDA1543. It can handle 24b 96kHz with a DIR9001 or cs8414. The dac is probably fine, even if it only does redbook. Only the output caps will limit the soundquality rather severely. You might consider replacing for mkp 10uF (or accept 3V offset without caps which sounds awesome, only 'don't do this at home' disclaimer applies: be aware of the minor implications). Also, if the are any other filter caps in the output, they are not really needed (1st order lowpass 20k just makes it rolloff earlier).
Thanks for your reply.

My hope is that running my Douk/Singxer DDCs into it will mitigate the effects of lower quality receiver chips. Or does the cheap input chip bottleneck the DAC regardless of whether a DDC feeds it?

If I understand it correctly, if you have at least one component in your chain with filters, you will be ok, right? Ie, one component with servo or output capacitors will prevent any DC from getting to your headphones?

I can't really tell what other negative effects the cheaper input chips have other than no highres and jitter performance. But if you normally only play 44k (or use TV via toslink 48k) it shouldn't really matter too much.

And yes, normally any amplifier has input caps (often not too great either, easy upgrade).

Whatever you do, do NOT order any TDA1387 kit from diyaudio.com. There is a certain "Richard" selling kits out of China ... and I and many other have lost money on one of those "kickstarter" like projects that do not deliver.
This is an English man maried to a Chineese woman. My deal with the guy did not finalize for some reason, so I can't comment on non-delivery issue, but a guy who is spreading it fails on the simple issue. I don't believe that there are fake TDA1387 chips. There was discussion on diyaudio about fake TDA1387 chips, it did not bring conclusive results. DAC chips are not easy to fake and nobody will spend on the R&D in the situation where there are piles of chips priced few cents a piece recycled from sound cards which were produced in millions.

Who said anything about FAKE tda1387 chips .... I'm know damn well for sure that mine (raw chips, ordered from eBay, China; qty: 20) are real.
But that has nothing to do with the English guy ... RICHARD DUDLEY ... who is an absolute crook as I (and others) later found.

Your link leads to such claim, it seems to be a main issue, it destroys credibility of what you say.

Oh really? What about techboy's comment earlier in the very thread we're in? Or his similar comment at diyaudio.com.
BTW .... I do own a Nobsound TDA1387 ... and it sounds like GARBAGE.
I have a Nobsound TDA1387, and with a linear psu it sounds decidedly NOT like garbage. It actually sounds scary good for the price. The DAC is the perfect change of pace compliment to my Denafrips Ares 2 at about 20 times the price.

Ironically, my second, upgraded TDA1387 DAC should be delivered later today.

Are you RICHARD DUDLEY ... promoting more of your stuff HERE .... cuz they aint sellin' ova deya? NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah ... I've got the Ares II meself. Have had it for over a year ... and find it BORING AF. Got me a tda1305 (Bitstream dac) kit that has potential up da wazoo ... cheap, too.

A very small portion of my HUGE collection .... this is the budget DAC pile ... note that, among other things, I have TWO tda1387-based units in this pic .... not in this pic are many, many tda1545a and 1387-based projects and raw chip over in my lab ...

Still, a similar Lee design.

Ha!

I love my Denafrips. It replaced a Chord Hugo, and it is everything the Hugo wasn't (in a good way).

I see you have a Lee's 1387 - mine came in today. Already not bad sounding through a Douk U2 Pro DDC.

I have a super minimalist 1543 incoming - can't wait to hear what it sounds like, for better or for worse.

1305, you say...interesting. I will have to check that one out.

The tda1305 was used in several high-end CDPs in the late 90s/early 00s. A couple of Naim CDPs got that as well as still-sold (new) AMR cd player .

For 16/44.1 Red Book: Nothing, subjectively anyway, compares to a really, really tweaked tda1541a/saa7220B Philips CDP from the late 1980s ... at least no unit I've heard to date.

First post making a sense. See. Still an old tech, for a serious project better go with AD1862 in semi-NOS mode.
