How about a dumbed down version. Close to the K1000 abilities but easier to drive.. And a 1/4 connector. Sell for 899.00.

thats basically what im hoping for with a more modern headphone design instead of the grills.

Yeah, its a good headphone but imo it isn't that good. (not $1700 good)

So what headphone can run circles around it?

Sure hope not!
Cause the speaker amplifier requirement, and the 4-pin XLR plug, is a major reason why I prefer the K1000.

I think the he60 runs circles around it in many ways. I'm not saying the K1000 is bad, as once I can affords one at the price I want (not much more then $1000), I will purchase one. Otherwise I don't fell there worth the money (I also take into consideration that a good amp will be neaded that will generally only be used for the k1000).

It can't be driven by the Signature 30.2, so its not for me...

Just purchased a pair of K1000s for $1200...brand new in shrink warp. Should I open them or keep them few years without opening?

Anyone know how much they were worth about 2 or 3 years ago?

I obviously just joined here but I already own a pair of AKG K701, HD650, HD280, and a tube amp (not going to power the K1000s I guess).

I agree, these products are created to be used and enjoyed. Take care of them and they should retain their value.
