Samsung makes the integrated a/v chipset (no dac) in the iPhone and iTouch 3g.

According to gsmarena audio test of all the nokia phones, looks like nokia 5230 gives the best result followed by nokia X3. It also shows iphone 3GS among the best phone in sound quality. (of course, they are referring only to the numbers and only to the phones that they have tested)

For those that don't know it yet FLAC is now playable on the 5800 by using the app/program: Folderplay. Try google it for S60. It works great. Though it sometimes skips a few seconds when using other programs on the phone.

Nonetheless it works great.

I gave up on my 5800 as a music player when I got my X and i9.

For a phone, it's good but can't compete with a DAP.

I wish it supported it natively. I really like having the controls on the screen with the native player.

edit:
also, what I noticed when it is on lineout mode, everytime i unlock or something, it lowers the music to play the tone, but when i am in headphone mode, it does not do that.

I got Nokia E72 & Sony S739F + sony EX 90 + Sennheiser IE 8.
In 192 kbps I like sony better...
In 320 kbps I like E72 better...
Sony definitely colour the song.
Nokia is plain, more open, clean, wide...

Back to the 5800 for a minute, my Ortofon e-Q7s sounded very good out of mine without EQ.
