5800XM: Bigger soundstage and fuller bass. Treble more mellow while mid not that forward. Background hiss less than S630F (not really noticeable on S630F unless u max'ed the volume)

This only applied for CK100. I prefer CK100 on 5800 but for my other IEM/headphone, S630F is better. More bout synergy than SQ. Others sound dull on 5800.

P.S: 5800 music player is very crappy, functionality wise.

-Thanks a lot Toughnut this was very helpful. As a current owner of the s738 I'm in agreement with your summary. That synergy really must be a good one! thaks again

Cheers

Could you give more detail on this comparison? 5800 vs 890i

I have the 5800. Functionality is poor as said. I am using it purely as a music player. I have added a Graham Slee Voyager amp, as the volume on the phone is not quite loud enough for me even at full volume, which then introduced distortion. I am using Senny CX300 in ears. SQ is almost very good. The top end lets it down big time IMHO.

For those using 5800 or any Nseries/ExpressMusic phone, try using "Lineout" instead of "Headphone". I was floored by 5800 "Lineout". Huge power even at min volume, sound a lot better even at equivalent "Headphone" SPL. Everything just sound fuller.

I always ignored other options till today since i accidentally touched "Lineout", nearly caused me to lose my hearing

Blimey! That's better! Thanks for that, I never noticed the option.

well can u please tell where from the "lineout" signal is to be extracted other than the 3.5mm headphone out? I have the N91 8gb.

It's still via the same 3.5mm output but under different profile when u insert the jack. On 5800, there's 4 options = Headphone, Lineout, Headset and Music Stand.

Regarding battery life, i can easily keep it alive for 50 hours. Couple of sms, few minutes of call, 5-6 hours of music, 2-3 hours of wifi browsing.

battery time is not great if you use it constantly then do periodic scans for wifi or use 3g aswell. i get a day out of it for 'normal' usage (ie: ignore those people telling you not to use this & that feature). just charge it every two days, & if you're out more than a day, maybe one of those cheapo AA or solar chargers will keep you worry free.

i'm using HD25-1, denon ahc551 & even HD595. i think this phone has an amp chip better suited to cans whereas sony walkman phones are made to do earphones. this phone has a bigger sound than sony ericssons for sure.

i can't really tell the diff between LO & HO (or the other two settings) with my cans but then i am getting a pretty big sound from HO, maybe it's got something to do with the capability of the cans themselves. sound from my c551s is, ok.

Can't be hard to beat the N91. My N91 hisses like mad with my CX300s (admittedly low impedance). I almost actually can't listen to anything except rock.
