Yeah ! This should be amongst the top choices given what you listen - stunning dynamics, powerful, smooth extension at both ends of spectrum..... and highly resolving of course.

I agree the HD650 sounds great with Raptor. But this may be out of range unless a good used one is what we are talking about.

Maybe the $1000 Starter Package from HR - Desktop Amp w/ DAC and AKG K701s

Take a listen to the K701s and decide which ones you like better (HD650s or K701s). Then sell the ones you like the least (or keep them both). If you sell it, you can probably get more for the headphones than what you paid, based on the package price.

That's what I'm thinking about doing if I ever go balanced.

That is a VERY good suggestion. Headroom amps sound fantastic.

I am probably going with the Graham Slee Solo found one for sale at http://www.musicdirect.com/ my only question is if I am using my computer as the source should I go directly from my MacPro soundcard to the amp or can I go from my Klipsch 4.1 computer speakers headphone jack?

I'm probably going to get flamed for that one.

btw youve all been a great help so far

I'd seriously consider the headroom option. The DAC in it will be better than that in your Mac. Not to mention, IMO the headroom amp is better than the solo.

How would I go about buying a Graham Slee Solo? It seems so hard to buy amps that are from Europe, I just don't know where to begin.

That's easy. Buy from Graham Slee. If you have a question, just mail him.

Nice work! Let us know what you think.

Again, don't forget that you can try the K701 against the HD650 and sell one if you want to recoup some money (but I doubt you will, I think the dark side has you!)

Headroom has a great return policy that lets you audition and return within 30 days. You might want to order the HD600 or 650 with that too and see if you like that better.
