hey guys,
my friend is looking for a pair of closed head phones for his bday but im on a very tight budget( my ex just cleaned out our joint account.. FUNK) . the only phones he's heard are my hd497 and he seems to really like them. is there anything in the 50 dollar range that i can get him? keep in mind closed phones and the budget. thanks a lot guys any feedback appreciated.

oh, and websites where i can find them would be great too.

The Beyerdynamic DT231s are $60 from HeadRoom... I much prefer them in comparison to the HD497s. The 497s sound somewhat grainy and "gutless", IMO, now that I've heard the DT231s.

the beyers are back stocked and im not sure where to get the v6's used. ebay has a pair that ends in a day so ill keep my eye on them;
i found a pair of hd212's on thenerds.net; u think these are good for the price (39.99 +9.99 ship)

I had a pair of HD212 Pros - I didn't like them that much, actually. A bit too bassy-boomy in my opinion. I encourage you, though, to try for the DT231s - Todd has them too, actually! http://www.toddthevinyljunkie.com EDIT - They're the DT231 "Pro"; I'm not sure if they're the same. I have a feeling they are, but I'm not completely certain.

sony xd200s. cheap enough, but if you're looking for closed headphoes as in good isolation, these are not the ones to get. I heard they don't leak much, tho.

Here's another vote for the Beyer DT231's. They are comfortable and sound awesome. I also have the HD497's anf the Beyer's are just a lot more fune to listem to. They don't have great isolation but it's ok. BTW, you'll see three different versions of the 231: DT231, DT231 Pro and DT231 Galaxy. They are all exactly the same except the Galaxy had purple ear cups.

Panasonic RP-HT355 for $39.99. probably the best bargain full sized closed headphones i've come across.
