New TOL A&K DAP : the AK Ultima SP1000

We are looking into it. You are correct, we did support Qobuz on previous gen players but dropped it when they were talking about folding the service a few years ago. Now that they are back and expanding, it is something we are interested in. We do not have a timeframe or confirmation at this time that we will support Qobuz on our players.

Thank you, one more question. I saw posts from folks who attended CanJam in London saying that A&K representatives were saying a firmware update to enable Tidal offline was in the works and expected by September. Is that information correct?

I can definitely hear the difference using the EQ on my AK380, but the effect is very subtle. What I don't like is how activating the EQ automatically lowers the volume level and -perhaps I'm just imagining this- seems to impact dynamics. AK DAPs definitely aren't aimed at people who enjoy tweaking their electronics like many Android phone users for instance.

I have owned both the AK380 and now the SP 1000 when the EQ is turned on, the SP1000 volume does the opposite of the 380, it’s volume is lowered.

[QUOTE"JasonNYC, post: 14394209, member: 479210"]

A&K’s incremental EQ settings in A&K are very ,very subtle (0.1dB +/-) because we expect our listeners are only looking for finer adjustment as you engage in your music listening. You will not find a 10 db+ adjustment on any of our players.

The values in the adjust are whole #'s. In fact there is another (0.1dB +/-) adjust slider next to the one with whole #'s

If you are looking for a drastic EQ change, then Astell&Kern DAPs are not for you.

You do not advertise such on the page where the purchase button is. +4 dB at 60Hz is hardly drastic

Astell&Kern has never meant to deceive anyone regarding EQ and the passive EQ has been discussed many times over the last 6 years [/QUOTE]

Deceive, your word....is exactly what it is when you advertise a PEQ that is "passive" without mentioning it's passive and going on to talk about the backplate reflections?????the fff? . In an industry where the little differences make for big ad blurbs you mention none of that (the passive eq that is....the pretty sunburst backplate gets a mention??). Semantics yeah? You didn't con folks you...um....***cough*** didn't feel the need to elaborate ??
The "Q" settings must be same despite the big beautiful bumps and valleys one can make with a swipe.

The filter settings? Not mentioned but damn, seriously?
Unit so sharp it needs a cover but of course does not come with one
Got 8....8 comments from some big names (3 own your gear) on here stating a loathing for the company and folks who hang on it like groupies. That's just on this site. The worst item thread on the site surpassing the "Look at the 3rd post - mojo thread" Just before posting this I note you got 13 likes basically explaining A&k policy which somehow is not shared with the ad /promo folks as everyone knows that shi don't fly.

About EQ, when I used Ak240, PRO EQ was very effective. Without using the EQ setting, music seemed so dull and I could not continue listening
for a long time. And about SP1000, I use EQ for compensation of my hearing. With free hearing ability test software, I could understand my
hearing ability roughly. At least after setting EQ, I think I can enjoy the music more than before. I don't need big change of EQ. It's a job of music
creators or mastering engineers. I need only a little compensation. For me, SP1000's EQ is useful. If one can enjoy music more using EQ, one
should use. And in case one cannot enjoy music with EQ, one should not use it.

@JasonNYC Re: AK Connect. Is there a way to get it to show the tracks in an album by track # instead of alphabetically. I have used 8player and it is an option but I really like AK Connect Tidal integration and the display of the sample rate. Note: seems to work depending on the DLNA server accessed. Will investigate further.

Sorry, forgot to hit the post reply button.

No official announcement on when or if Tidal offline is coming to any of our players. CanJam London was managed by our UK distributor, so not sure what exactly they were telling people, but there is nothing to report at this time.

Mine is near a year. No tarnishing as far as I see.
can't believe until I see pictures from others ...
it is important that AK improve the coper cover for the next dap, and sure we will probably be many to order the cu....
but looks like the current cu owners don't communicate so much on the tarnishing of the sp1000cu. how can they improve the quality if there is no feedback ?
I'm really expecting that AK definitively block the probability for the next cu versions to tarnish to ensure many of us ...

The SP version is coated, as opposed to the 380 version. There were lots of posts in the 380 thread about tarnishing, few or none here. That's likely because none are tarnishing.

Both the AK380Cu and SP1000 Cu have a protective clear coat applied. We changed the clear coating used on the SP1000 to reduce tarnishing, but the clear coat will eventually wear like any other product and the player will eventually tarnish.

You'd be surprised at the number of people that requested a version of the AK380Cu that was NOT clear coated because they wanted the patina on it
