New TOL A&K DAP : the AK Ultima SP1000

For me custom is the way to go, insolation and overall comfort cannot be accessed by any iems. Also I hate to try and test different tips in order to reach the maximum performance: foam, silicon, round, conical, double or triple flange, etc.

Also, now with the incredible amount of drivers the earphone companies are able to fit in a single iem, they are becoming heavier therefore affecting the overall comfort.

I know that customs have a lower residual value, but I'm buying them for the pleasure of listening, like I think most of us. I my first concern would be to save money, then I would stop buying earphones at all.

I don't have any IEM but really need a pair for outdoor listening. Last weekend i went to a local store and listened the new JH Lola with my SP1000 as well as campfire audio vega and JH Roxanne. None of them sounds even half of what full size headphones bring to you but i found the lola to be very entertaining perhaps even more than full-size headphones so i ordered a custom pair for fun listening

Ok, I think my ears needed to adjust.. I let my SP1000 burn in for 13 hours and I can definitely notice a jump in sound quality over my AK380cu.. sounds more fuller, and the base is waaaaaaay more present on my SP1000. I actually use a lower volume level compared to my AK380cu when using my SP1000. Happy I went with the stainless steel version over copper, don’t feel like I need to babysit it as much. I could leave my AK380cu in the bed and still get little marks I have to buff out...

Been exploring a better way to access my music from my nas device on my SP1000 without needing to pop open my laptop everytime to run Astell&Kern mqa streaming app. It’s a little finicky, I always have to re-add my music folder which has to rescan of all my music which takes FOREVER. Solution, built a Windows 7 VM machine housed in my nas, pointed the Astell&Kern mqa software to my music share and now I can stream my catalog from without using my personal laptop. Took a little over an hour to setup but well worth it.

The SP1000 can stream from pretty much any uPnP compliant music server - most NAS's come with one installed - have you tried?

Customs don't necessarily provide better isolation, especially the acrylic ones. Westone does produce the soft tip customs which are the best in isolation I have ever heard. Universals with the right tips usually have better isolation, especially if you have tried the ER4/4P.

Does anyone know if AK is making a recorder for the SP1000 line like they did for the AK300s? Thanks

Yes, I tried that but the uPnP wouldn’t work.. my router kept crashing whenever I enabled it...

I'd assume that an amp attachment would be introduced first, before the recorder module. Still, it's good to have a similar ecosystem for the SP1000.

can people post pictures of their stock leather case ? I sold mine few months ago, because I had real doubt about its quality ?
its ability to resist against daily use...

IT doesn’t scratch easealy ?

I’m sure it does but that’s what a case is for and it’s leather, just get leather conditioner to replenish it.. better than my device getting a scratch on it.
