Was Steve Jobs watching SNL when they spoofed the ever-tinier-iPod-per-minute trend??? Here's the first audio toy I expect to buy for my wife -- totally apathetic about audio of any kind! -- the tiny new 1GB iPod Shuffle (estimated "12 hours play time... 240 tunes... [? based on 128kmp3!?] $79...) -- might get one for me, too -- if I have any available cash:

Well the track count is likely based on 128 AAC. Same size, but likely quite good enough for your wife (from your description) and the likely uses of the player.

Hmmm, it does make me wonder if its up to the standards of the current Shuffle though.

It looks mighty interesting, really chic, might get one just for excercise use.

Yeah I wonder if it has the same sound quality as the old one?

I love how tiny it is and can't wait to get one. But now you have to use a dock instead of just plugging it in to sync and thats just another accessory to have with my laptop. And not that it really matters to most of us but Apple redesigned the earphones, however the Shuffle doesn't seem to ship with the new ones just the nano and the ipod, wierd.

I might be the only one, but two of the things I liked best about the "old" Shuffle I have are that it fits perfectly in my hand (thumb right above the buttons) and that it has built-in USB, both of which are definitely gone in this version. It'll be interesting to see what happens to the great sound quality of the 1st one.

Romanee, do you really need it? I'd just skip it. There are other things you could buy first

theory_87, iaudio has nice sound quality though.

I never minded the shuffle because I don't listen to a lot at once so I don't need a screen. I used mine without itunes also. I've moved on to an iaudio U3 since then.
