Well, on Monday I managed to kill my SR-80s. Those were my first introduction to high-end(ish) headphones, and I thourghly enjoyed them for the 2 1/2 years or so I had them. Well, it was a pretty easy to decision to order some SR-225s to replace them. Just got them about an hour ago and even prior to any break in I'm already in love. Basically it's like everything I loved about the SR-80s, but more so. Dialed up my reference album (Rush's Moving Pictures), and even break-in I'm blown a way. So much detail on the drums...thought the '80s were good here but the 225s are even better. Bass is also much fuller. If my expirience with the '80s was any guide the bass will be even better after 50 hours or so.

Hard to be definitive without being able to A/B them...I'd say midrange is similar, highs a little less (but in a good way!) on the 225s. The '80s could be just a bit harsh at times, especially on heavily distorted guitars, the 225s aren't, while maintaining (in fact improving on) the detail and 'presence' I found so addicting in the '80s.

Having gone from the SR-60s to the 225s and having listened to a friends 80s I can say I totally agree with you. Congratulations on a great purchase. My 225s never seem to disappoint, no matter what I'm listening too. How are you amping them?

Welcome to the 225 club. They are addicting. I have had mine for a year now and still love them.

My home signal chain is

PC > Chaintech AV710 Optical Out > Kenwood home theater receiver . I'll also be using them at work, where I'll just be driving them right off the soundcard.
