yes the 'platinum' model is Ltd.Ed, only available in Z1070 guise I believe.

friend of mine is getting a new Xperia phone in the next day or so, I'll upload a few songs & do a A+B to look at SQ.

Would not hold my breath , but we'll see.

Has anyone else experienced crackling when slightly moving the headphone plug (when plugged in) when listening to music?

My Z1060 is ~5 months old and already seems to have a fault...

It's going back to Sony.

Is the Z series better than the X-1000 in terms of sound quality?

Yes, in every area.  The Z has noticeably better dynamics as well as soundstage depth & width than the X1060.  Try the search function too for more results.

no problems here, have you checked you headphone connects (probably a stupid question)... if it is faulty it is a rare occurrence, good luck in finding a solution.

ps... have to agree with Purk on his comments about the WM-X.

Thanks OK-Guy, yep, tried with several pairs of headphones, same results, weird, especially considering that I've been using a Fiio E11 with L5 since day one (i.e. pretty much never even used the headphone socket for listening).

The socket looks to be a modular component, like not part of the Walkman body, so maybe it is prone to movement, should be made of metal for this price :)

I'm seriously thinking of getting a amp to go with my WM-Z not that I find any shortcomings with it... I just want to see how my IEM's perform as they're supposed to be better by amp'ing.

Sony will probably send you a new unit, I've got my Z1070 on one of their extended-warranties, they won't replace like for like being the Japanese model but at least I got cover from them.

nice BS Silver-Tabby btw.

try it on bluetooth... when you plug it into your car-stereo the amp & dac in you car's unit takes over, 'Way' will probably advise you on you on how to sort it for best results.

ps... mp3 tends to sound crap through external sources to my ears, if that makes sense

you're into motors

That I am!  I've been looking for a Subaru GC8 (non RS model in 5spd)... they're just rare now...  I want to bring it into the garage and completely gut it.... re-weld the seams, and tighten it all up. Then possibly get a WRX 2.0 drive train and build that up to transplant into it.  Not looking for something crazy, just 300hp range at the wheels.  You run Xbox?  If so... join me in some Forza 4!  Woot!
