It's interesting to note that the NW-A306 isn't currently listed on Amazon Japan--at least, not by default. Google is more revealing, indicating that Amazon Japan recently marked the A306 as not in stock. It's a similar situation with Amazon U.S.: the A306 is invisible. Indeed, although Sony U.S. lists the A306 on its website, you guessed it: it's out of stock. Meanwhile, the ZX707 seems readily available.

It certainly appears that something is happening. Perhaps Sony has decided to suspend sale of the A306 until it can incorporate a fix.

BTW anyone from Acessory Jack have one with the bass issue? I'm assuming you could send it back to the vendor if there's is a hardware problem. Say there is a capacitor that's the wrong value for instance. Sony probably isn't going to repair all those, it would just switch them out.

But I don't think it's that because a problem like that would likely occur in specific sequences in production. Instead of so widespread and random.

It's an intriguing mystery for sure.

Possibly yes, I need to REW again. Initially my thoughts are, sound is thin, tinny no warmth or impact. With clear sound enabled it recovers what I feel the default signature should be. No volume cap so it goes loud. I may just sell my unit rather than pay high shipping to return in to AccessoryJack.

It’s embarrassing for Sony and a big disappointment for all of us with device issue. We have to keep raising our voices hopefully to turn in some solution. I (we) like the device, the crystal sound etc, but having to hear it with the EQ on maxed out for the 3/4 first low bands to get a close to proper sound is unacceptable. I’m trying to figure out another visual way to show the issue below 500 or (1000) Hz and will post an update if found.
Also: probably already mentioned but I found 2 things while using Bluetooth: a) there’s more room in sound output available b) using LDAC has many dropouts while using AptxHD is fine-maybe a thing with my Panasonic RP-HD605N headphones.

Same here, I turned on Clear Audio and the bass is back ^^. Hope this is a software issue that will be fix soon.

I am suspecting it to be a software problem its just to random Sony normally have a firmware out for issues ...i think next month they will release an update

no dropouts here using ldac using the sony wh1000mx4

I ordered a Tripowin Zonie, which I read "might fit", which it does, but not snuggly enough imho, so I will end up modding it (cuting the plastic), but I need a plan b, in case that doesn't work, and your cable looks good ^^

The second A306 arrived today. It shipped out from the same Amazon warehouse at the same time as my first one, but they got separated in Germany for some reason.

Anyway, this second one (with a really low serial number) does have the issue, and the difference is very noticeable. I'm in the slightly odd position of having two of these in front of me — one with the issue, one without — to perform direct comparisons with, at least until Monday when the bad one will be going back. Let me know if I can do anything interesting to compare (that won't affect my ability to return it — no disassemblies!
