New Sony Walkman NW-A300 Series (Android 12)

it seems like a lottery - can’t spot a pattern still

Seems absolutely random. Very puzzling indeed, if it was a manufacturing defect you'd think they would be from the same batch, or at least a correlation of semi sequential numbers. I can't see them putting the wrong resistors/caps in so randomly.

If my multimeter wasn't on the fritz I'd check the output resistance. Supposed to be about 2 ohms.

Naturally there are a lot of concerning posts in this thread now and rightly so, however, while I await my 'out for delivery' email, I'd like to ask.
For those who have their A300 series, what things have impressed or even surprised you in a good way so far?
Proper battery life, Android 12 and a decent CPU/SOC for music use in such a tiny, lightweight form.
Audio quality from its 3.5mm not a long way away from its more expensive brothers (lower impedance would have been nice).

I'll find out later. If it has the problem I'll contact accessory jack and Sony.
As mine is inbound from Accessory Jack and 'if' I were to have a problem, i'd be interested to know if you have spoken to AJ. Many thanks.

Where do you look for the firehose/MBN/ELF config?

Google primarily...

XDA forums and similar sites also for QCS2290 SOC tools.

Looks like random noise. Are you sure you were in USB DAC mode and connected via USB (borrowed photo)?

Nope but after I test and if there's a problem I will contact them. I've never had any problems with Sony stuff. I know they don't do refunds for dissatisfaction, but they do on defective items. Let's hope we're both OK with ours. I mean I love the sound. And if there is a problem Sony directly addresses it.

So, a little fun trying out the 4.4mm to 3.5mm balanced adapter to see if having seperate earths changes/improves things.

Only tried with my FD7 (Dynamic) and SE846 (BA).

With FD7 , same silver cable, just swapping interchangeable plugs. With SE846 using a Sony 3.5mm and a Fiio 4.4mm cable.

Basically, adapter is exactly as described, no connection issue and really nice build quality, especial for £10!

With my FD7 at 60/120 for both SE and balanced. Minor difference but I think I dedect a blacker space, room seems larger and everything a bit more pristine, clearer.

With my SE846 I'm not detecting hiss like when new for some reason. Volume at 50/120 for both SE and balanced. Can't say I notice any difference with these.

Few photos

Now just tried my M9 (5BA) with included 3.5mm and 4.4mm balanced.

Slightly more open, more clarity maybe slight more open sound stage.

Same volume, 75/120 for both.
