Hong Kong Sony site also shows the 230mW output for balanced, and I am sure that it has high gain setting when I played on the demo at local Hong Kong Sony Store.

I wonder what US rule or law Sony is interpreting as a reason to disable the high gain mode. Do the US versions of the NW-WM1Z / 1A M2 also have high gain disabled too?

Not sure, but it sucks big time...:frowning2:

I just can't believe Sony is crippling the new ZX707 for countries which do not seem to have laws in place ordering so. It's so annoying...and I can't understand what might possibly Sony win by doing this.

Sony US is showing this spec:

Headphone Out (Stereo mini-jack)
FREQUENCY
20–40,000 Hz

MAXIMUM POWER OUTPUT (JEITA 16Ω/MW)
0.4–1.1 mW (32Ω)
‐----‐---------‐------------------------------------------‐---------------
Headphone Out (Balanced standard-jack)
MAXIMUM POWER OUTPUT (JEITA 16Ω/MW)
0.4–1.1 mW (32Ω)

FREQUENCY
20–40,000 Hz

What the hell is Sony thinking? I guess if they don't want to sell in the US market and lose profits then they made the right decision by crippling thr US version of ZX707.

Well it's their decision due the regulation, but they should written clearly "This XXXX version of NX707 doesn't have high gain function due to blah blah blah"
At least to let their buyer know before they buy it, like @aaf evo situation here.
But really its too bad, No high gain means capped to certain IEMS, even their M7,M9 and Z1R also hard to drive. Definitely will think twice for getting it

Damn, this is disappointing. It is weird that I have to deal with a volume cap even though my country has no law/regulation stipulating such a limit being necessary. This would make any considerations to purchase this a non-starter.

However, what's funny is that the 1AM2 and 1ZM2 are not volume limited in my country so I really do not know what is going on unless a law/regulation requiring a volume cap for Singaporean products was implemented in 2023.

Maybe 1AM2 it is...

Curious where are you seeing the ZX707 in Canada? I don't see it on their website.

I am guessing the high gain might be locked by software and not hardware, so perhaps there might be a way to unlock it.
