After using Fostex TH-610s and loving their bass response, I can't go back to open back headphones, they just don't have the same bass impact and power (don't say planars, I don't like them, besides TH-610 sounds more open than most planars). TH-900 could be considered an upgrade, but I just can't handle its treble. Thus, I'd be really happy if this HD820, as a closed back, has linear down to 10 hz, powerful, ass kicking bass that doesn't bleed into mids. I'd buy it in an instant.

Actually the bass on my HE60 is the cleanest and deepest I've heard.

That was my impression when I listen to them. I felt like the 007 has a better bass than 009. I might be wrong tho

The Ether ES had quite a bit of bass when I tried at the Head-Fi meet in SF (production tuning). I was surprised and impressed. It sounded slightly north of neutral to me, and definitely more bassy than the ÆON Flow Closed. It may still not satisfy a bass head, but that's just tuning, not capability - who knows what a Schiit Loki could squeeze out of them.

Just bought the AKG 872 hoping for HD800 like performance, but closed. They're good, but not that good.

Hope HD820 will not be crazy expensive! Aside from HD598Cs there's not many reasonable price range 300-500$ closed backs in Sennheiser's portfolio, especially in HD series.
