Yep, with Rustin Man called Out of Season.

I own it, but actually never even took it out of the plastic wrap much less listened to it

Mainly bought it just because I am a big Portishead fan...

It's legit. The band said so on their site.

I don't doubt that they announced it or that they believe it will happen. The fact of the matter is that they don't have a good track record of actually sticking to planned releases. I seem to recall expecting an album in '01 . . . and '03 . . . and '05, all of which were mentioned on the Portishead site. I have my fingers crossed that it'll finally happen.

It is pretty good and makes a good headphone listen. If you dig it, also check out Talk Talk's final two albums.

I think it's pretty good although it's not like Portishead at all. I initially didn't like it because I had expected it to be similar to Portishead.

Do you guys think Portishead will probably tour in promotion of this album? What size venues do you think they will play? I would guess something pretty large.

I hope they'll at least mix in some small venues like the Paradise Rock Club in Boston or even better, TT's in Cambridge MA.

It's f'ing great.

I'm not sure I can put into words how impressed I am with this album. I still remember when I first heard Dummy, and buying it and their S/T follow-up. To this day I'm still blown away every time I listen to or throw in the DVD of PNYC. But after 11 years, I had no idea what to expect. Was it going to be something like their first album, the slightly darker second album or something all together different. And to be honest, I didn't know what I wanted. Because I loved the first two albums so much, I was a little worried that the album might not live up to expectations. I'm happy to say that they have definitely created an album that finds that balance of feeling new and fresh while still sounding like Portishead. It's definitely a dark album, though that's to be expected. But it's also more advernturous with structure and the sounds they use. I can't wait for the official release in a few weeks.

Again, it's a hell of an album, though definitely not for everyone. It's not necessarily a love at first listen kind of album (though I did), and the flashes of abrasive sounds can be challenging. But I'm thrilled they didn't play it safe and release some kind of cheap copy of their past successes.
